JAMMU, MAY 11: As yet the campaign for yet another election comes to a close, it can be concluded that despite commitments the successive state Governments have not resolved the problem of regional discrimination, which has been allowed to rage on. The issue of ending regional discrimination was part of the common minimum programme of the Congress-PDP coalition Government but the problem continues to be alive. Now the NC-Congress ruling coalition has made an announcement that it would remove regional discrimination and has entrusted the task of examining the issue to Mehmood-ur-Rehman, chairman of the Finance Commission. In the past the Jammuites have clamored over the failure of the successive state Government in implementing the recommendations of various commissions, including the Gajendragadkar and Wazir Commission. Srinagar: At least twelve Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) activists were injured and their vehicles smashed by angry anti-poll protesters at cement bridge, Baramulla on Monday morning.
Reports said early Monday morning hundreds of people mainly youth at Cement Bridge, Baramulla surrounded the cavalcade of PDP candidate for Baramulla Parliamentary constituency, Mohammad Dilawar Mir that was on its way to Uri from Rafiabad for an election rally.

Panaji, May 11: An Indian Army major was arrested here Monday for allegedly taking obscene photographs of a woman and attempting to blackmail her, police said.
The officer, identified as Major Tarun Singh, 27, is posted at Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir and is in Goa on a holiday, Inspector Nolasco Raposo told reporters, adding he was staying in a hotel adjacent to a room occupied by a Mumbai-based family, which included the complainant.

Gangtok, May 11: Two men have been arrested here for allegedly kidnapping three women from Jammu and Kashmir, police said Monday.
The two men were traced and arrested by the Jammu police Sunday.
'Jammu police arrived here with arrest warrants for the three accused. Of the three men, two were arrested on May 10. Both were arrested from the Pani House area here. One man is absconding,' Superintendent of Police (East) M.S. Tuli said.
