SRINAGAR, May 12: In keeping with its pre decided agenda of effecting reshuffle at various levels of state administration, the cabinet led by Omar Abdullah today approved and ordered transfers and postings of officers. The reshuffle was effected at the level of IAS offciers holding the posts of Principal Secretaries and Commissioners in various government departments as well as officers holding KAS ranks.
Pramod Kumar Jain, IAS joining on completion of foreign training/ expiry of leave has been posted as Financial commissioner, Revenue, relieving R.K. Jerath, Principal Secretary, Health & Medical Education of the additional charge of the post.

NEW DELHI, May 12: Jammu and Kashmir has strangely drawn a blank in today's National Florence Nightingale Awards given to select nurses drawn from all over the country by Vice President Hamid Ansari at a function held at Vigyan Bhavan here to mark International Nurses Day.
None of the nurses from J&K or teachers in nursing profession from the State figured among two dozen awardees, the list for whom was drawn by Union Health Ministry headed by Ghulam Nabi Azad who hails from the Northern border State.

JAMMU, May 12: For the first time in the past twenty years, the government of India has finally given its nod for Amnesty International's (AI) Kashmir visit. The visit shall commence from May 17.
According to highly placed sources, New Delhi has finally given permission to a two member team of the AI to visit conflict torn Kashmir. The two member team has already arrived from London and is expected in Srinagar on May 17.
The sources said the team was busy finalizing its itinerary in New Delhi. The team, according to sources, is expected to concentrate mainly on preventive detention of political prisoners and the laws that allow such detention.

JAMMU, May 12: Lawlessness prevailed in the Bahu Fort area when forest employees beat revenue and JDA higher officers. The incident occurred at noon when on the direction of DC Jammu MK Dividi revenue officers including ACR Jammu Inderjeet Bhagat and JDA officers led by director JDA Babu Ram reached at Bachan Depot at Bahu Fort to measure the piece of land. The piece of land is at present in the possession of forest department. The land measuring 19 kanal was allotted to JDA by government in 1999 cabinet meeting.

NEW DELHI, May 12: Over 40 terror training camps are still functioning in Pakistan, Defence Minister AK Antony said on Wednesday, asking Islamabad to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure operating from its soil to show its commitment to the resumption of talks between the nuclear-armed neighbours.
"There are more than 40 terror camps in Pakistan. Pakistan must take action against terrorists and dismantle terror infrastructure," Antony told reporters on the sidelines of a conference on defence accounts.

Making it clear that India is not paranoid over China, Antony said that Sino-Indian bilateral relations were improving and getting better, despite the border dispute.
"Nothing like that," was Antony's response to reporters' queries if the government was paranoid over China and if there was any problem or bad feeling about Beijing.

JAMMU: High court judge, Justice JP Singh has directed Jammu Development Authority (JDA) not to charge enhanced rent from the tenants of its shops near Shakuntla theatre.
The court directive came in a writ petition filed by four tenants of JDA shops near Shakuntla theatre.
In his direction, Justice Singh said, "The respondents shall not charge enhanced rent from the petitioners, who shall, however, continue to pay the agreed rent."

JAMMU: The body of one of the three persons of a family, who were killed in an avalanche at Chatargala in Bhaderwah, Doda, in February this year, was recovered last evening.
Official sources said Ghulam Haider (60), his wife Saja Begum and son Gulistan were hit by an avalanche at Chatargala while they were on their way from Kathua to Bhaderwah along with their daughter and son-in-law.
While others had escaped, Haider, Saja and Gulistan were washed away by the avalanche on the fateful day.
Haider's body was recovered last evening due to the melting of upper layer of snow, the sources added.

JAMMU: A sixth class student was killed due to lightning at Palmar in Kishtwar today.
Dheeraj Kumar (12) was playing in the field when it started raining all of a sudden. To save himself from the downpour, he took shelter under a tree.
Police sources said while he was standing under the tree, lightning struck, killing him on the spot.

JAMMU: MLA Langat, Engineer Abdul Rashid today offered Nimaz-e-Jinaza (funeral prayers) to three militants slain in an encounter with the troops at Handwara. This is the first time when a sitting MLA has participated in the funeral prayers of militants. Rashid addressed the mourners and put the blame on India and Pakistan for bloodshed in Jammu Kashmir. Earlier, Rashid and his supporters guarded the bodies of the slain militants at Handwara for the whole night.
