| Kundal eats humble pie | | Swearing-in put off, confusion over new CS prevails | | | Early Times Reporter

With the political and bureaucratic circles sealing their lips enigmatically and confusion looming large over the scheme of things, the top IAS officer Balwant Rai Kundal had to eat a humble pie as his scheduled oath taking ceremony was deferred at the last minute.
BR Kundal, who was the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary till Friday was supposed to be inducted in the Ghulam Nabi Azad cabinet this afternoon. Despite all preparations having been put in place the swearing-in ceremony to held at the Raj Bhawan lawns was put off at the last minute. So was the case with the cabinet meeting scheduled for earlier this morning.
Top sources in the government and at Raj Bhawan refused to divulge any details though it is learnt that the proposed move ran into a political controversy. Interestingly, the only reaction available on the issue was that of Peoples Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Mufti told reporters here today that the Cabinet should have been taken into confidence on such important matter.

| Bomb hits Pak Danish embassy, 8 killed | | | | Islamabad | June 2
At least eight people have been killed in a car bomb attack near the Danish embassy here today, according to reports. More than a dozen people were wounded. An embassy worker was among the dead and three were hurt, but no Danish citizens died, Danish officials said.The embassy building and several vehicles outside were damaged.

Four school children of a private school in Nagrotra near here were critically injured when an under construction pillar collapsed and fell on children appearing in their unit test examination in a makeshift classroom on Monday.
According to police reports the school children were writing their unit exam under the shade of a tent on the second floor of the Shastri Model school in Nagrota when high speed winds blew off the tent and the under construction pillars crumbled.
The children injured in the accident were immediately rushed to the Government Medical College where the condition of one of the school children was stated to be critical.

The Jammu & Kashmir Bank has reported a 32 percent rise in its fourth-quarter net profit, which lagged analyst estimates because of higher tax provisions.
The bank earned net profit of 598 million rupees, up from 452.8 million rupees a year earlier. A Reuters poll of analysts had forecast a net profit of 816.33 million rupees.
The bank has set aside 990 million rupees for tax payments during the quarter, 77 percent higher than the year-ago period, Chairman, Haseeb A Drabu said.
The bank provided an additional 200 million rupees towards exceptional tax liability this year, accounting for the sharp increase, he said.

Preparing for the elections due later this year, the Army has embarked on security equipment acquisition.
The army has issued tenders to purchase light-weight bullet proof jackets (LWBPJ), sniper suits and veils (SSAVS) and handheld radio sets (HHRSS) to beef up its counter security grid in the state, particularly in view of the Assembly polls slated for late this year.

Objecting the bail plea of Capt Chaitanya, the husband of Capt Megha Razdan who had committed suicide last year, the prosecution today accused him of having drafted the suicide note himself as a copy of the same was found from his laptop.
Meanwhile, the prosecution also brought to the notice of the Court that he used to talk to his Pune based friend for long hours in the night and used to send her around 200 SMSes every day. Capt Chaitanya had earlier claimed that he had sister like relations with Pune based girl Seema Kulkarni. Having strayed into Pakistan in 1997, Mangal Singh today returned to his home in border belt of Pallanwala in the district after being released from a Pakistani jail.
Singh, who strayed into Sialkote belt of Pakistan on 23 February, 1997, was arrested by Pakistani rangers and subsequently awarded jail term for illegally entering into the country, official sources said.
He spent 11 years in Kot Lakhpat, Sialkote and Zaffarwal jails.
Singh, who was released a few days back walked back to freedom via Wagah border and returned to his home in Channi Dewani border hamlet.
