| With no early solution in sight, shut down extended till Aug 20 | | | | Early Times Reporter

As the Central Government failed to arrive at a solution as putforth by the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS) to end the present deadlock, the ongoing agitation has been extended by another six days.
Meanwhile, an uneasy calm continued to prevail in Jammu and its adjoining areas where people took out the usual processions, protests and demonstrations demanding restoration of 800 kanals of forest land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board and also recall of the Governor NN Vohra. No incident of violence or clash has been reported from any part of the region.
A 15-hours relaxation in curfew also passed off peacefully. The authorities had initially ordered relaxation in curfew from for 12 hours –between 5AM and 5PM. But it was later extended till 8 PM. However, as usual, the shops and other business establishments remained shut during the curfew relaxation.

Amidst flames of raging fire everywhere, the Principal Secretary Home Anil Goswami and Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda are making hectic efforts to convince the people of Kashmir Valley that traffic is smooth on the National Highway and there is no need of marching anywhere.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar today, Goswami said that as many as 234 Srinagar bound load carriers with essentials and fuel were on way to Srinagar on both sides of the Jawahar Tunnel this evening. He said the movement of the vehicles had to be regulated in view of some incidents on this side of the tunnel.

Road and rail traffic were today disrupted in parts of Delhi and across several states as VHP and BJP activists launched a nationwide 'chakka jam' agitation over the Amarnath land issue.
Commuters had a tough time as traffic on certain major intersections and roads in the National Capital Region (NCR) and train movement along the Delhi-Jaipur route were halted by the activists this morning.
The blockade, which lasted two hours from 9 am, left many office-goers stranded across the NCR region and caused huge jams.

Despite a relaxation in curfew, sporadic incidents of violence prevailed across Kashmir Valley where forty two persons were injured today, including 23 in police firing at various places.
In the Jammu region, shoot-at-sight orders were issued in Kishtwar town rocked by communal clashes in which two persons died on Tuesday, official sources said.
Authorities relaxed the curfew in three-hour blocks in Srinagar and five other districts for 12 hours during when there were no major incidents.
