FIR against Mirwaiz, others for instigating violence | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Sept 12: A day after large scale violence and arson, police today registered three cases against separatist leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of the moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference, over burning of government properties by a mob which he led during a protest rally on Saturday. Even as curfew was re-imposed in Srinagar and other major towns of Valley, protests continued in some pockets forcing Police to resort to firing in the air to disperse the unruly protestors. Police also lobbed teargas shells after a mob attacked coalition government's Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Syed's house at Kokernag. In all, over two dozen people were injured in clashes across the Valley
The Mirwaiz has been charged under various sections of Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), including 121 (waging war against the state) and 153 (wantonly giving provocation to cause riots). | | VDC member held for alleged rape bid | | | BHADERWAH: A village defence committee (VDC) member was disarmed and arrested here today for allegedly making a rape bid on a girl. Police sources said VDC member Janak Raj, son of Hari Ram of Malathi, tried to outrage the modesty of a girl at Bala.

| | Four hurt as vehicles collide at Akhnoor | | | JAMMU: Four persons were wounded in a head-on collision between two vehicles on the new Akhnoor bridge on river Chenab near here today.
Police said a Tata mobile (JK02AE/3124) collided with an autoricksha (JK02S/8250) on the new Akhnoor bridge on Chenab, resulting in injuries to four persons.
The injured were identified as Kalu Ram of Bazigar Basti, Bansi Lal, Tillu Ram and Puran Chand, all residents of Bale-da-Bagh.
They were admitted to sub-district hospital, Akhnoor, from where Kalu was referred to the GMC Hospital here following deterioration in his condition.

Police sources said Ganesh Lal (24), son of Bajja Ram, was found hanging from the ceiling fan hook of the room he had taken on rent at Talab Tillo.
He originally hailed from Jindrah. A suicide note was also found lying on a table in the room.
Though he held himself responsible for the suicide, he had given no reason for this extreme step in the note, the sources added.

| | Girdawar, patwari land in SVO net | | | JAMMU: A girdawar and a patwari of revenue department were today apprehended by state vigilance organisation (SVO) at Reasi while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2,500 from a villager.
Identified as girdawar Gyan Chand and patwari Manohar Lal, they were arrested on a complaint lodged against them by Gandharb Singh of Devipur.
As per the complaint, the accused had demanded Rs 2,500 as bribe from Gandharb for issuing him the fard of his land in his village.
SVO sources said acting on the complaint, SVO sleuths laid a trap and held the accused while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 2,500.
