PDD spends Rs 27 cr annually on repairing transformers
Half of 35000 installed transformers get damaged every year
1/10/2013 12:27:01 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 9: The Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department is spending Rs 27 crores on an average on repairing damaged transformers, but has desisted from installing capacitors on transformers which according to estimates could cost Rs 50 crores but shall save Rs 65 crores to the State exchequer annually; besides, it would save Rs 30 crores of the consumers on account of damage caused to the electronic gadgets due to voltage fluctuation. According to official figures, 35000 transformers are installed in the State and 50% of these get damaged costing Rs 27 crores to exchequer as Rs. 15000 are required on an average for repairing each transformer. This is the expenditure other than the financial irregularities which could have been avoided if the capacitors would have been installed on distribution transformers in the State-a move-which could have eventually saved another Rs 65 crores annually -the State is currently spending on purchase of reactive energy from outside. In cash-starved State, where you don't have money to pay remuneration to hundreds an...

Sheikh Nazir's 'Plebiscite' spark fails to ignite reaction from Cong
Pandora's Box reopened: For High Command to respond, says local leadership
1/10/2013 12:26:18 AM
Kunal Shrivatsa JAMMU, Jan 9: National Conference stalwart and uncle of Dr Farooq Abdullah Sheikh Nazir's spark on 'plebiscite expression' has failed to ignite any political controversy from its ally Congress, even as the former went all gun blazing against the party for what he contended afresh its failure to keep promise made by Jawaharlal Nehru with Kashmiris for resolution of Kashmir issue. The state unit leadership, as always on such contentious issues chose reticence and pushed the ball into High Command's court, saying it was for the latter to respond on such issue. Lohri festival merely symbolic gesture
1/10/2013 12:25:03 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 9: The Tourism Department is living in either delusion or is ignorant of the cultural history when it has decided to have Lohri festival confined to only Raghunath Bazaar only. The festival is celebrated across the Jammu region especially in districts in the plains. The department by scoring brownie points or for taking credit to have assuaged the sentiments of the Jammu decided to have it in the area where even locals can't get together because of the paucity of the space. Though, the place had its historical moorings, but in the present times, it doesn't have space to accommodate to people who intends to come there with their families in their own personal...

Behind gleaming award ceremonies
1/10/2013 12:23:55 AM
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 9: In the backstage of the glittering award functions wherein Jammu and Kashmir Government was given accolades for its 'remarkable achievements' in primary and tertiary healthcare, incidents of maternal deaths have exposed official apathy and professional negligence in the Department of Health.
