TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Infighting in BJP intensified as many leaders stake claims for Lok Sabha seats
10/25/2013 12:10:08 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 24: With the starting of the countdown for Lok Sabha elections, infighting in the "disciplined" BJP has also intensified as number of aspirants for two Lok Sabha seats namely Jammu-Poonch and Udhampur-Doda have been swelling with every passing day. There is a feeling among BJP leaders that any Tom Dick and Harry can easily win Lok Sabha elections due to strong wave in favour of Narendra Modi. So every leader has been staking claims for party mandates. Insiders in the BJP said that state president Jugal Kishore is front runner for Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha and Dr Nirmal Singh is for Udhampur-Doda but some leaders are working overtime to sabotage their chances of getting mandates. Insiders said that party leaders, those who have been opposing mandates for Jugal Kishore and Nirmal Singh, are in constant touch with a senior central leader who would be instrumental in allotting party mandates in Lok Sabha elections. For Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat as many as half a dozen candidates are in fray. Similarly for Udhampur-Doda seat, numbers are almost same. A...

NC said what it actually believes in
Not really a U-turn
10/25/2013 12:10:00 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 24: Three days, NC leader and J&K CM Omar Abdullah surprised many when he suggested that New Delhi should look for other options in case Pakistan failed to behave. His statement had surprised many people because he had all through spoken for Pakistan. It had been his considered view that Pakistan was a factor in the state's political situation and New Delhi had to bring him on board to restore peace in the Kashmir Valley. He knew it fully well that Pakistan would come on board only when its stand on the state was appreciated and Kashmir resolved as per its aspiration. It is not a secret that he, like all other Kashmiri leaders, is of the considered view that ...

Kishtwar violence
10/25/2013 12:09:48 AM
Early Times Report KISHTWAR, Oct 24: It is now almost clear that the Omar Abdullah-led coalition government is not interested in bringing to justice the perpetrators of the August 9 Kishtwar violence. That day, fanatics and anti-India elements had targeted the minority community, set on fire their properties, looted, plundered and ransacked their shops and burned down their vehicles, including cars. The Kishtwar violence and the barbarities committed by the communal forces on the minority community had created furore in the Parliament for two days, August 12 and 13, and created volcanic situation in Jammu province, which observed three-day-long massive bandh. It was under pressure that Om...

Leadership fails to 'rope in' people despite Modi wave
10/25/2013 12:09:23 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 24: Even as a flurry of activity is going on with major political parties in the state in terms of the joining and quitting spree, a phenomenon that sets the ball rolling for such developments in run up to elections, state unit of BJP stays untouched, stagnant and sluggish as ever with no leader , not to speak of any known figure from non political fields trying to come into its fold. This, despite Narendra Modi wave gripping everywhere else on multifarious political fronts, is not happening in J&K, all thanks to its 'moribund' state that continues to envelope the existing scenario within the party.
