TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Union Home Ministry rings J&K; police, administration prefer deep slumber
Preventing communal riots
11/16/2013 10:44:30 PM
Syed Junaid Hashmi Jammu, Nov 16: Despite repeated directions from Union Home Ministry, police as well as administrative set-up is unprepared to tackle communal riots, few of which recently shook entire Jammu region. Instead of taking effective precautionary steps, it is more bothered about containing a communal riot. Union Home Ministry has issued a detailed advisory to the states across the country especially Jammu and Kashmir, asking police to remain vigilant and take effective steps for preventing the situation from turning ugly especially in the communally sensitive areas. However, if the police and administrative sources are to be believed, onus is more on providing fool-proof security to the political leaders and their rallies. Entire police set-up is seen following one or the other political leader. Ministers and other VVIPs get most of the attention from the present police set-up. Even in highly communally sensitive districts of Kishtwar, Doda, Udhampur and Jammu; sources affirm that police is giving long rope to anti-social and communal elements. These elements...

Akshay Azad Jammu, Nov 16: The four members committee constituted by State Government to assess losses, caused by denial of power share from four power projects Uri, Salal, Dulhasti and Sewa, by National Hydel Project Corporation (NHPC) has failed to find any headway as neither Union Power Ministry and NHPC have been providing information under Right to Information (RTI) Act. Sources informed Early Times that four members' committee constituted by J&K Government last year under Advocate General to assess recovery of losses, had initially sought information from Union Government, but so far not even an iota of information has been furnished by latter. Disgruntled panchayat members
11/16/2013 10:43:57 PM
Javaid Naikoo SRINAGAR, Nov 16: As a mark of protest, 302 village heads of North Kashmir's Baramulla district have finally decided to submit their resignations to Rural Development Minister during his forthcoming visit to inaugurate two Panchayat houses. Although hundreds of village heads across Kashmir resigned over the years following threats from militants, however, the decision of mass resignation of North Kashmir's Wagura block based on 35 Panchayat Halqa's of Sangrama constituency was taken today in voluntary. "The decision to resign is voluntary and not triggered by any militant threat. The reasons lie in indifference of the authorities towards panchayat members," said one S...

CM visited Kishtwar 4 months after clashes
Azad versus Omar
11/16/2013 10:41:21 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 16: Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had rebuffed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah by visiting Kishtwar, about four-month after it witnessed communal clashes, and generating confidence of both the communities in maintaining peace. Azad, who had virtually single-handedly ensured maximum seats from erstwhile Doda district, didn't speak rhetoric but visited families of both the communities. He didn't take any sides, had meals with members of both the communities and most importantly said it should not be construed that communal clashes were engineered with any eye on Assembly elections by any political party. The Chief Minister had not visited Kishtwar till n...

Modi's fear forces Congress leaders to iron out differences
11/16/2013 10:41:09 PM
ET Report Jammu, Nov 16: Strong wave of BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi seems to be having forced faction ridden Congress leaders to iron out their differences to face the challenge. The way Congress leaders turned out in the "Eid-Diwali-Gurupurab Milan" function organised by Jammu Lawyers is a clear indication that Modi fear has gripped the Congress leaders and they have realized that they can save the party from disastrous only by presented a united face. Leaders of the all factions were present in the function to give a message of unity to civil society. Officially Congress leaders are not admitting Modi's factor in Jammu and Kashmir but internally they have been admittin...

Are troops not covered by "to err is human" adage?
11/16/2013 10:41:40 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 16: Those who are fully aware of the border terrain in north Kashmir, which is dotted with ravines, thick forests, verdant slopes, mountain ranges, do not support those who dub the recent Army operation for fluhsing out militants in Keran sector as a "drama". And one among those who blame the Army for "enacting a drama" by claiming to have carried out operation against a group of militants having crossed into Kashmir from across Keran sector is none other than the volatile and vocal Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal, Additional General Secretary of the ruling National Conference. Kamaal has the distinction of commenting on all political, economic, social and security r...

11/16/2013 10:41:32 PM
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 16: Inspite of the repeated assurances by the Government to check the functioning and operation of various coaching / tuition centers in J&K state, the Government has miserably failed to fulfill its promise. The coaching centers which are operating in Srinagar have totally bypassed the orders passed by the Government on several occasions. The coaching centers were supposed to get registered but this too hasn't been done till date. The regular employees of Colleges ranging from Asst Prof's, Associate Professor's and even Professors are seen taking classes during office hours. Even at many places the Higher Secondary School lecturers are attending coaching ...

Promoting Horticulture Planning through advertisements!
11/16/2013 10:44:17 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 16: The Directorate of Horticulture Planning and Marketing seems greatly influenced by the advertising agency. The agency projects women in vulgar styles to sell anything ranging from truck tyres to sanitary napkins. However, while the women, rather models have no issues with the advertising agency, some people rightly accuse it (agency) on laying emphasis on the sexuality of the model rather than on the quality of the product. In the same fashion, the above mentioned department has been issuing advertisements while the emphasis is laid on the concerned Minister than the project undertaken by the department. In the latest advertisement about a fruit mand...
