In a media release Tuesday, a spokesman of the army's Northern Command said the incident at Qamarwari took place because of a "demilitarized Srinagar." "Terrorists have once again shown their presence for the second time in a month as if to remind the world that militancy was still alive and kicking in Kashmir," the spokesman said, adding: "The clamour to remove bunkers and thin out the police/paramilitary presence from the urban areas had compelled the Omar Abdullah government to give in." "Though it appeared to be a well considered decision, but the latest incident has raised many questions. While it may have pleased a few hardline separatists and their ISI handlers in Pakistan, but what about the common man in the valley," the spokesman asked. "The state capital ...

11/30/2010 11:51:15 PM
NEHA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 30: NC president and Union Minister Farooq Abdullah hit the nail on the head when he declared in Kolkata the other day that the "separatists won't get an inch of Kashmir." What he said was consistent with the national mood. Similarly, he was absolutely right when he defended the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and POTA. The enforcement of the AFSPA and POTA in Kashmir was the need of the time. Their application was needed to rein in the Pakistani-aided and abetted Kashmiri ultras, who had used violence as a tool to dismember India and achieve their sinister designs. It was expected that the Kashmiri separatists and PDP leadership would denounce ...
