Gupta takes U-turn 'won't rejoin BJP' | | | Avinash Azad
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 26: Soon after National Conference and People's Democratic Party (PDP) distanced themselves from Bharatiya Janta Party and consensus eluded the government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, the Independent candidate from Udhampur Pawan Gupta took a U-turn today and refused to rejoin BJP.
As the Independent MLAs can play a major role in the government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, Gupta seems to have made a move to strike a deal with any party which stakes claim to form the government. Gupta contested elections independently, defeating two time National Panther Party MLA Balwant Mankoita and BJP candidate Pawan Khajuria with huge margin of votes. Indications made by Pawan Gupta not to go with BJP can make him the man of the moment and can get whatever he wants.
Pertinently, riding on Modi wave, after BJP's land slide victory in Lok Sabha and assembly elections in Haryana and Maharashtra, the over confident state unit of BJP lost two seats in Jammu, Nagrota and Bishnah.
Former BJP leaders Pawan Gupta and Baldev Raj Sharma had said that J...

Early Times Report
Jammu/SRINAGAR, Dec 26: People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) holding "secret talks" to forge an alliance in Jammu and Kashmir ostensibly hit a roadblock today, sources told Early Times.
They said the major issues both the parties are locking horns with each other are Article 370 and rotational chief ministership. The BJP has reportedly told the PDP leadership that it has to give in its demand for rotational chief minister and not holding a debate over Article 370, which gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

| | MLC aspirants in BJP start lobbying by pretending proximity with Sangh Parivar | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 26: Even as no breakthrough has yet been made on formation of next Government in Jammu and Kashmir, some over ambitious in the second largest party have prematurely started lobbying for a berth in the Upper House.
These aspirants in the BJP, which is confident of coming to power in the State, are eying on the Upper House seats falling vacant in near future. These aspirants have even prepared the list of those `eligible' for being MLC on the basis of seniority in the party and caste criteria.
Besides some senior BJP leaders, who were denied mandate in the Assembly elections, a number of self styled high-profiles in the party and a few influential businessmen ...

| | Public opinion favors PDP-BJP coalition | | |
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 26: The public opinion in both the two regions of the State favour a People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for a stable and strong government that can deliver and last for full six years.
The people in both the two regions favour that the common mandate is with PDP in Kashmir Valley and BJP in Jammu region so it will be fittest in the interests of people of the two regions of the State if the PDP and BJP join hands to form the next Government by devising a common minimum programme (CMP) and keeping a moratorium on all the contentious issues.
People as well as political analysts also feel that reaching a workable formula for runni...
| | A vote for Jammu's territorial integrity | 2014 polls | | Neha
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 26: The much-awaited election results are out. The people have again given a fractured mandate. The PDP has emerged as the single largest party winning 25 seats from Kashmir, three from Jammu and none from the Valley. It worked quite hard for almost six years and improved its tally from 21 in 2008 to 28 in 2014 in the 87-member House. The BJP, which had won 11 seats in 2008, performed exceedingly well. It increased its tally by 14 seats. It won 25 seats and has the support of at least five independent MLAs, including those belonging to the People's Conference. The ruling NC, which was quite unpopular, sprung a big surprise by putting up a respectable sho...
| | Governor rule looks inevitable! | | | Sandeep Bhat
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 26: Despite 2014 assembly elections witnessing huge participation of people no political party got absolute majority in 87-member JK assembly and fell short of magic figure of 44 seats, if none of the parties reach on consensus over government formation in JK there is every possibility of Governor's rule being imposed in the state.
The political parties got seats in one region and almost nil in other regions that way people of the entire state, Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh didn't give any political party an absolute majority to govern the state. The Ladakh region was mostly dominated by Congress party where it secured 3 out of 4 assembly seat...

| | NC could play the role of Congress | Roles reversed | | Rustam
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 26: The inning of the Congress in Jammu & Kashmir appears to be over. It doesn't have the required numbers to play the games it played in 2002 and 2008 and enjoyed the loaves and fishes of office. The pre-poll assertions of the senior Congress leaders that no government in the state would be formed in 2015 without the support or participation of the Congress has turned out to be hollow, notwithstanding the fact that Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad on Thursday had virtually sought to persuade the PDP, the single largest party in the Assembly, and its former ally, the Congress, to give up the idea of working with the "communal" BJP a...

Out of six seats, four seats of Kishtwar, Doda, Bhaderwah and Ramban were won by BJP in just concluded Assembly elections while Congress could manage to retain only two seats of Inderwal and Banihal out of five seats represented by them in 2008.
