Agreement or 'coalition compulsion' on seat sharing for LC polls….?
4/3/2011 12:31:44 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 2: With two key candidates Abdul Ghani Vakil and GhulamNabi Monga withdrawing their papers today, the tussle between two veterans Ghulam Nabi Azad and Prof Saif-uDin Soz , it appears, has finally cost Congress one berth in the Upper House from Kashmir. Three candidates including Shanaz Ganai of NC from Jammu withdrew nomination papers today leaving 2 in fray for the six seats of Legislative Council. The polls are being held on April 13. Even as the withdrawal of papers by two senior leaders of Congress from Kashmir is being given to believe as the agreement on 'seat sharing' between Congress and National Conference, it is actually the tiff and tussle betwe...

State's dependence on central funds loses its right to seek autonomy
4/3/2011 12:31:05 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 2: The state of Jammu and Kashmir has been reduced to the size of a new born baby suckling last drop of milk from its mother, the Government of India. For every economic ache the state Government knocks the doors of the central Government. For meeting the demand of employees it cries like an infant with the hope that its mother, Government of India, starts feeding it. It believes in the old adage "Jab Tak Bacha royega nahein Tab tak Maa usey Dood nahein Daitee hein." (unless the baby weeps its mother won't feed it with milk). Government reports indicate that the Government of India provides over 80 per cent financial support to plan and non-plan sector in Jam...

4/3/2011 12:30:53 AM
Kunal Shrivatsa JAMMU, Apr 2: 'Good governance' and 'work culture' are the two words, off and on, used or to say propagated by the State Government but going by the latest report of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, the reality is somewhat different, as CAG has indicted the State administration for its non-compliance with various financial rules, procedures and directives during 2009-10. Opportunity for Panthers Party to win over Jammu
Legislative Council Elections
4/3/2011 12:30:30 AM
Neha JAMMU, Apr 2: Process to elect 6 members to the J&K Legislative Council has already been set-into-motion. The process would be completed in the second week of April. The composition of the Legislative Assembly is such that Kashmir-based and Valley-centric formations like the PDP would require support of the parties like the Panthers Party, which has three members in the Lower House. There are reports that the Panthers Party leadership and the PDP are hobnobbing with each other to ensure the victory of the PDP candidate/candidates and the vice-versa. The Panthers Party has also fielded candidates, overlooking the fact that it just can't win unless it gets support of the PDP. The Congre...

4/3/2011 12:29:50 AM
ET Report Jammu, Apr 2: Jammu Kashmir had the distinction of restricting entry of Indian citizens into the state. Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah enforced the law requiring Indian citizens to obtain permit for visiting the state strictly and created a stir in whole of India.
