JAMMU, May 8: Tehsildar, Jammu, and a SIDCO executive engineer were today booked by state vigilance organisation (SVO) in corruption cases as they were alleged to have amassed huge wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.
Simultaneous raids were carried out by SVO sleuths on their offices and houses in the morning. During searches, which continued throughout the day, the sleuths were said to have seized several official files and vital documents for their scrutiny.

NEW DELHI, May 8: Sudha Pillai, an IAS officer and wife of Union Home Secretary GK Pillai, has taken over as Member-Secretary in the Planning Commission. Her appointment to the post that has the rank of a Minister of State at the Centre came within days of her retirement becoming due.
Ms Pillai was slated to retire on April 30. Significantly, on the same day as many as 30 other IAS officers have retired. Yet, thus far none of them has been even remotely as lucky as Ms Pillai. It is another matter that the Central or the State Governments might give some of the retiring IAS officers some post-retirement job in future and avail their services.

Jammu: A Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) area commander and his deputy were killed by police and army in a gunbattle in Khour Nullah at Ladh in Mahore area of Reasi this evening.
A selection grade cop (SGC) of police was also injured in the exchange of fire, police sources said. The slain militants, said to be locals, had carved out a hideout in the nullah.
Acting on a tip-off about their presence in the hideout, police and army cordoned off the area in the morning and launched a search operation.

Two persons, including a peon in the office of Poonch deputy commissioner, were today arrested by police for allegedly running a fake permanent resident certificate (PRC) racket.
Five fake PRCs were recovered from them, according to police sources.
The peon allegedly charged Rs 3,000-5,000 per fake PRC. However, the whole money was not "gobbled up" by him, he shared it with some clerks and senior officials, who were alleged to be part of the racket, the sources added.
