Gareeb Dass Jammu | June 13 Though the appointment of N.N.Vohra as the new Governor in Jammu and Kashmir has the approval of ruling coalition leaders,it may not alone help him to have a smooth sailing in the Raj Bhawan.As the Governor he has to perform a balancing role which could keep both the warring Congress and the PDP leadership in good humour.His first challenge,soon after his swearing in ceremony,is expected to be to calm down those,including PDP leaders,who have been vocal in opposing a two-month duration for the annual Amarnath Yatra and those who had targeted the Governor for having secured allotment of vast tracks of land in Baltal belt for the construction of a road that could facilitate the pilgrims trek to the holy cave.This section of people and politicians have even opposed the plan of the Shrine Board,which is headed by the Governor,to set up prefabricated tents and toilets for the benefit of the pilgrims on the plea that it will result in polluting and defiling the environment in the mountain belt.And by the time N.N.Vohra reaches Srinagar to man the Raj Bhawan ...

Early Times Reporter Kishtwar | June 13 Five Beacon officials including commanding officer and two jawans of Territorial Army were killed in a militant attack on Chattro-Simthan road near watsar, 45 kilometers from here, this evening. A team of Beacon officials had gone to conduct the inspection of under construction Chattro-Simthan road when they were ambushed at watsar. Informed sources told News Agency of Kashmir that the team was on its way back to Kishtwar from Chattro when militants ambushed the vehicle and open indiscriminate firing, killing all the five officials including the Commanding Officer (OC). Sources in the Public Health Engineering Department said that the inhabitants of Channi, Narwal, Bhatandi and Sainik colony will get un-interrupted water supply after the inauguration of the Bhoria filtration plant. Early Times Reporter Baramullah | June 13 At least six civilians sustain minor injuries here this afternoon after a grenade attempted at Police station missed the target and exploded on the road. Eyewitnesses told KMT that unidentified persons hurled the grenade towards the Police station early this after noon, which exploded on the roadside. Six persons were injured after they suffer splinter injuries due to the explosion. Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 13 Barring Congress all other mainstream political parties have started the exercise of short listing their candidates to be fielded in different constituencies during the ensuing Assembly poll. While the Panthers Party which plans to contest over 50 seats, has tentatively selected 25 candidates, the BSP has cleared the names of 40 candidates while it was preparing another list. The PDP has set up a panel for selecting party candidates whose names would be cleared by the Parliamentary Board. Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 13 Governor S. K. Sinha, who has been replaced by N. N. Vohra, has not yet decided on the day and date when he would leave the Raj Bhawan. According to official sources, Sinha has not yet started packing his luggage.
