After some small slips between cup and the lips, the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today kept the ‘high profile’ promise as former Chief Secretary BR Kundal was finally sworn in as a Cabinet Minister.
The Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) S K Sinha administered oath of office and secrecy as cabinet minister to B. R. Kundal in the council of ministers of Jammu and Kashmir. The swearing in ceremony was witnessed by a galaxy of political leaders and bureaucrats besides family of Kundal at Srinagar Raj Bhawan this evening.
Besides Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, prominent among those present on the occasion were Union Minister for Water Resources Prof. Saif-Ud-Din Soz, Union Minister of State for Commerce Mr. Jairam Ramesh, Speaker Legislative Assembly Mr. Tara Chand, Chairman Legislative Council Mr. Ghulam Nabi Lone, Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Muzaffar Hussain Baig, Minister for Health and Medical Education Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma.

Three Sikh bodies have formed a base in the region in a bid to launch terror attacks in Punjab, police said on Friday.
Three militants belonging to them were recently arrested. During interrogation, they said about 40 terrorists have formed three outfits - Khalistan Zindabad Force, Panj Pardhani Group and Iknoor Khalsa Fauj - with their base in Barnala.
Police got hold of Malikeet Singh, Surjeet Singh and Harbans Singh on Jammu-Akhnoor-Poonch highway and recovered one AK rifle, five pistols and some ammunition.
Police sources said that the Panj Pardhani Group was formed after Malkeet Singh was released from a Patiala jail in January after 10 months. ... | |

On a Public Interest Litigation filed by the Panthers Party of Bhim Singh, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court has stayed construction work on two new degrees colleges including one in the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad’s native village.

Following pressure and criticism from various social and religious organizations, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has constituted a three member panel for reviewing the priority darshan system and has also promised to make a final decision by June 17.
According to an official spokesman, Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) S K Sinha, in his capacity as Chairman SMVDSB, today ordered constitution of a 3-member committee to look into the operational aspects of this system.
