JAMMU, July 23: At least 23 commuters were feared dead after an overloaded minibus in which they were travelling skidded off the road and fell into river Chenab at Hast near Kandni in Kishtwar this evening. Governor NN Vohra and chief minister Omar Abdullah have expressed
grief over the loss of human lives in the incident. The ill-fated minibus (JK06/0774) was on its way from Thathri to Kishtwar town. Against the capacity of 18, it carried 24 commuters, including women and children. Two minor boys, who were sitting on the rooftop, survived with minor brusies. Police sources said the minibus skidded off the road and plunged into Chenab at about 6.28 pm after its driver failed to negotiate a curve. Before it fell into Chenab, two boys -- Vinod and Kuldip -- who had to sit on the rooftop in the absence of space inside the vehicle, jumped and survived with minor brusies, the sources added. There were a total of 25 persons in the minibus, including driver Shoukat and conductor Zakir.

NEW DELHI July 23: Indian Air Force personnel have successfully rescued 27 marooned villagers from Parol Nullah near Kathua, in Jammu, late last evening.
According to a statement issued here today by Ministry of Defence, in response to a request made by the Jammu administration, an IAF Mi-17 from Jammu airbase was launched to evacuate the villagers who were marooned in the wake of a flash flood that hit the area yesterday. JAMMU, July 23: A day after the yatra was suspended due to inclement weather, no fresh batch of pilgrims was allowed to leave for the holy Amarnath cave shrine from the base camps at Jammu, Nunwan and Baltal.
However, with improvement in weather conditions, authorities allowed thousands of pilgrims stranded en route to the shrine to move towards their destinations, official sources said, adding that about 800 pilgrims offered prayers at the shrine this afternoon.

Jammu, July 23: With two persons having tested positive for Swine Flu, the authorities and the general public have every reason to feel scared.
Both the patients have been hospitalized and their condition is stated to be stable.
