Jammu, Aug 24: In yet another gruesome accident in the treacherous Chenab Valley region, at least four children were killed and 23 others were injured when a bus carrying school children skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in Gandoh area of mountainous Doda district, this afternoon.
Official sources said that a mini bus (JK06-1588) on way from Thatri to Batri area of Gandoh area in Bhallessa tehsil met with an accident near Batri killing two children on the spot and injuring twenty-three others.
They said that the children were on way to Higher Secondary School Kahra when the accident took place.

Srinagar, Aug 24: As many as 108 foreign nationals, including nine Afghans and a Saudi, were among 2,449 people arrested in connection with militancy in Jammu and Kashmir till August this year.
"At present 2449 persons are lodged in different jails within as well as outside the state till August. Of these 2384 persons are in various jails in the state whereas 65 are lodged in jails located outside the state," the state Assembly was informed.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who holds the Home portfolio, in a written reply said that there were 108 foreign nationals including nine Afghans, a Bangladeshi and a Saudi detained in different jails within and outside the state.

Srinagar, Aug 24: Taking strong note of complaints about the supply of sub standard maize seeds to farmers in parts of Jammu province, the Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Ghulam Hassan Mir, today directed the Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-J to constitute a fact-finding committee of scientists and agriculture experts to look into the issue.
The committee has been asked to visit fields randomly, take samples of the seeds provided, speak to farmers and submit their report to the Government within 15 days.
The Minister had received many complaints over the past few days from the farming community who had requested him to intervene into the matter.
