All is fair for echelons of power
4/8/2014 11:39:35 PM
Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Apr 8: National Conference President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah seems to have forgotten that he is leading National Conference and not discharging his political obligations as a senior Congress leader more so as the Lok Sabha elections have already started. Dr. Abdullah goes on praising the Congress party and its leaders and says that Congress is the only party that can safeguard the interests of people of Jammu & Kashmir. The National Conference President not long ago accused the Congress party of sabotaging the interests of people of state. On Monday after filing his nomination papers for the Srinagar-Budgam Lok Sabha seat, Dr. Abdullah said that Congress party is g...

On aggressive note, Mufti demonstrates he is largest crowd puller
In last leg of campaign, PDP jolts coalition camp once again
4/8/2014 11:39:25 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 8: As the campaigning came to close for Jammu-Poonch seat today, it is the PDP's aggressive campaign in last leg led by its Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed which has made coalition partners National Conference and Congress uncomfortable. Not only was the PDP patron seen as largest crowd puller in the rallies seen in twin border districts, but also steering the party and its candidate much ahead in the bustle and din of campaign in a gradual yet consistent manner, suggesting the party has consolidated significantly, much to the displeasure of both the alliance partners. The writing is clear on the political scene right now- victory or close to victory in Parliamen...

‘Over-whelming response to PDP in Poonch-Rajouri is a warning signal for NC-Cong’
4/8/2014 11:37:25 PM
ET Report POONCH, Apr 8: Over-whelming response of former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed during his tour to hilly districts of Poonch and Rajouri is a warning signal for ruling National Conference and its coalition partner Congress. In all his rallies from Rajouri to Poonch, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was accorded historic receptions at all places. By aggressively campaigning for the party candidate Yash Pal Sharma, PDP has already made election of the Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary seat at triangular but reception accorded to Mufti and huge turnout in his rallies is an indication that in the coming Assembly elections PDP is going to sweep this hilly belt which comprised of seven Assembly s...

`NC can not save itself from wrath of people'
Who created Salah-ud-Din?
4/8/2014 11:37:19 PM
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 8: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti today accused National Conference (NC) of pushing the state to the wall by rigging the 1987 elections. She was addressing election rallies in Devsar segment of Anantnag constituency today. "The NC turned Mohammad Yusuf into Salah-ud-Din," she said while responding to NC allegations that PDP had a truck with BJP, Jamiat-e-Islami and Hizbul Mujahideen. Mehbooba said NC had the worst performance of the past five and half years to its credit and cannot, therefore, save itself from the wrath of the people. "It (NC) has nothing to sell to the people," she added. Mehbooba said the NC probably wa...

Demand for abrogation of Article 370 rattles NC leadership
Nationalist constituency feeling jubilant
4/8/2014 11:37:07 PM
Rustam JAMMU, Apr 8: On Monday, the BJP released its national manifesto 2014. It, among other things, talked about the necessity of a debate on Article 370 and reiterated its stand that this Article must go. As expected, the reiteration of the BJP stand on Article 370 evoked a very strong reaction from the National Conference leaders, especially Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah. Both condemned the BJP. Omar Abdullah even went to the extent of saying the abrogation of Article 370 would mean de-accession of the state from India - a spurious argument. Article 370 has nothing to do with the accession business. Article 370 was incorporated in the Indian Constitution two years after 560-odd pri...

`Omar shielding failures in the garb of Art 370'
4/8/2014 11:36:55 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 8: The Chief Minister is banking on twisted lies to salvage the potential downfall of National Conference. Omar is joined by his father and Union Minister Farooq Abdullah in demonizing BJP over Art 370. The fact is that BJP in its manifesto has literally toned down on its stated position of abrogation of Art 370. They had in its manifesto talked about of having discussion with all the stake holders over relevance of this article. It was clearly stated when Modi addressed two rallies in the Jammu. The BJP is striking moderate tone with special reference to the J&K. However, this is much to the discomfort of the National Conference. The party had always tr...

Asif Iqbal Naik JAMMU, Apr 8: Even after four days of violating Model Code of Conduct by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah by announcing Paharis status to the Schedule Tribes to lure their votes in favor of alliance candidate Madan Lal Sharma during a public rally at Rajouri, the Election Commission of India is yet to initiate action against him. PDP, BJP have edge over NC, Cong: Analysts
4/8/2014 10:25:58 PM
Javaid Naikoo Srinagar, Apr 8: Around 3 lakh youth are likely to cast their votes for the first time during forthcoming Lok Sabha elections and political analysts see an edge for the PDP and BJP. Despite NC winning all the three seats in Kashmir in 2009 elections, the repeat of the performance seems doubtful. Similarly the Congress which won two seats in Jammu is on a slippery wicket in Jammu. Analysts say the vote bank of PDP had increased by 7 to 9 percent in Kashmir and a slight move in Jammu region too as compared to its 9% votes during 2002 assembly elections. Likewise Bhartiya Janata Party which fetched around 10% vote share in previous Lok Sabha elections is expected to gain th...

Need to review foreign policy vis-à-vis Pakistan
UPA and Jammu & Kashmir
4/8/2014 10:26:08 PM
Neha JAMMU, Apr 8: Jammu & Kashmir acceded to India in October 1947 in terms of the constitutional law on the subject, but the powers-that-be in New Delhi have been muddying the Indian waters in the Valley in their desperate bid to pander to separatists, communalists and votaries of greater autonomy ever since then. The situation worsened all the more during the past ten years with Sonia Gandhi at the helm of affairs and directing the Indian Foreign office and Kashmir policy. During this period, an impression went down that the UPA didn't consider Jammu & Kashmir an integral of India and it wanted to barter the sovereign interests to please and appease Pakistan and Kashmiri separatists. ...
