Jammu, Jan 24: As the state stands on a high alert mode due to increased militant activity and infiltration bids ahead of Republic Day celebrations, the Jammu and Kashmir Police claimed to have averted a major possible tragedy by recovering huge cache of arms and ammunition in Rajouri and Barammula districts.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda has said the state police have taken adequate measures to prevent any airborne attack on vital installations in the state. He was apparently referring to the reports of Lashkar-e-Toiba acquiring paragliding equipments.
Talking to reporters on sidelines of full dress rehearsal at MA stadium, Khoda said recent intelligence reports warned against attacks by the paragliders “and we have made adequate security arrangements to deal with the terror threat”. He said theire is total coordination among various agencies on the ground and they are enjoying perfect synergy.

JAMMU, Jan 24: A man was hurt critically in a mysterious blast at Pargwal Kalan in Akhnoor this afternoon.
Official sources said Sunil Kumar was working in his fields when he sustained serious injuries in a mysterious explosion.
He was removed by the villagers to the sub-district hospital at Akhnoor. However, following deterioration in his condition, he was later referred to the GMC Hospital here.
Police said the blast was most probably caused by the explosive material used by hunters to kill pigs.

Jammu, Jan 24: A tableau of wood-carved hut with chinar motifs, crafted shawls and life-like sculpture of a basket-weaving woman showcasing Jammu and Kashmir's handicrafts industry will roll on the Rajpath this Republic Day.
The float will move with the accompaniment of famous romantic folklore 'Waloo Mashooq Mainay'. Big copper samawar (kettle) and paper mache vases (paper artworks) will also be a part of it.

New Delhi, Jan 24: The cold wave continued in most parts in northern India where 14 people died, taking the toll this winter to 535 as dense fog affected rail, road and air communication in the region.
All the fresh deaths occurred in Uttar Pradesh where 506 people have died so far due to the chill this winter. Amritsar in Punjab was the coldest place in the plains as icy winds swept the city and the mercury settled at a freezing 0.2 degree celsius, the Met office said.
The region also experienced dense fog this morning which hampered road traffic and led to the cancellation of some trains as others ran late by up to 12 hours.
