SRINAGAR, Nov 17: They are promoting themselves, as well as the business of Reliance Communication in Kashmir, but who is paying for the advertisement campaigns of Omar Abdullah's 'life banao ministers' to 92.7 FM? While the Department of Information maintains that Government could sponsor only the campaigns promoting its image, programmes or initiatives, Naazirs of respective Ministers insist that discretionary grants supposed to be distributed among widows, orphans and other destitute are being squandered on directions of the members of the Cabinet. Be it a religious festival or any other event---even no occasion at all--- youngsters' craze FM 92.7 is deluged with 'Greetings' from Ministers, and now self-promoting government officials, in their own voice. SRINAGAR, Nov 17: Hundreds of thousands of devout Muslims participated in special congregational prayers at mosques, Eidgahs, Imambaras in Kashmir valley today on occasion of the annual festival of Eid-ul-Azha. Unlike on Eid-ul-Fitr on September 11th, no major disturbance was reported even as a group of anti-India demonstrators torched a troops carrier in Anantnag and another group of the followers of separatist leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, was dispersed by force after it clashed with Police in downtown Srinagar.

JAMMU, Nov 17: Eulogizing the crime branch (CB) initiative in unearthing the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) land compensation scam, revenue minister Raman Bhalla said no intervention would be made in the CB functioning in the case.
The CB was given a free hand to book those who were found involved in the scam, he added.
Meanwhile, more sufferers have approached the CB and lodged their complaints. The CB has made a list of the complainants, and to lodge a case in this connection, a meeting of senior CB officers was held.
CB sources said after five days of meeting, a strategy was made to work out the case.

New Delhi, Nov 17: The cost of the project to provide rail link to Kashmir valley has escalated by over 6 times.
The 294-km-long Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail route was initially estimated to cost Rs 2,500 crores as on March 2001.
However, according to the review report of the Ministry of Statistics and Planning, the cost has been escalated to Rs 16,000 crores as on August 31, 2010, which is 6.4 times of the original cost.
Considered to be the most challenging rail project being undertaken by the railways, the construction of the line is expected to be completed by 2017.

Jammu, Nov 17: In a goodwill gesture on the occasion of Eid-ul-Zuha, Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged greetings and sweets at different points along the Indo-Pak border in Jammu and Kashmir.
A Sector Commander level flag meeting was held between the BSF and Pakistani Rangers at a forward Border Out Post in Jammu district and Eid greetings and sweets were exchanged, official sources said.
Sweets and Eid-ul-Zuha greetings were also exchanged between the two armies at another flag meeting held along the Line of Control (LoC) at Chakan-Da-Bagh crossing point in Poonch district, they said.

JAMMU, Nov 17: Two sisters sustained severe burn injuries at their residence here today.The incident took place when the girls were performing pooja, police sources said.
They were identified as Mansi and Tanika, daughters of Manoj Kohli of Bakshi Nagar.
Soon after they sustained burns, they were shifted by their family to the GMC hospital. However, following deterioration in their condition, the family took them to CMC, Ludhiana.

UNITED NATIONS, Nov 17: Kashmir remains on the UN agenda even though it was not explicitly mentioned in the annual report of the Security Council, which only covered disputes that were discussed from August 2009 to July 2010.
