| Laharwal untouched, Urban Local Body wrong goes unnoticed | | Politically influential cakewalk story! | | | Syed Junaid Hashmi
JAMMU, Nov 19: High profile political connections and backing of a select coterie of officers has allowed ex-Director Urban Local Bodies S.A.Laharwal to remain unscathed despite having committed a serious administrative wrong.
If sources are to be believed, he was neither asked about the wrong nor was any explanation sought from him for what officers describe as thoroughly unprofessional conduct. Laharwal was not even once asked to explain his position vis-à-vis the administrative wrong committed by him, assert sources. None from GAD to Chief Secretary's office took note of this KAS officer's doing.
According to the official documents available with Early Times, Laharwal issued a circular no. DULB / PS/004-50, Dated 09-04-2012 giving detailed account of illegal and backdoor appointments made in municipal institutions of Kashmir alongwith upgradation, promotions and regularisations done in complete violation of rules and regulations. After giving detailed account of wrongs, Laharwal asked the executive officers to strictly adhere to circular instructions and rel...

Unrelenting in its pursuit for truth and unbiased journalism, Early Times not only carried follow up stories on the scam, but also published the names of the beneficiaries who had paid for their selections to the prestigious MBBS course. This was aga...

SRINAGAR, Nov 19: Despite repeated claims of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah that coalition Government has embarked on a journey to bring holistic development to the state situation on ground suggests that developmental works are limited to the laying of foundation stone with no fruitful activity being taken up.
In June this year, Omar laid the foundation stone of a bridge at Zari Mohalla in Pattan area of Baramulla district. During his speech Omar promised that bridge would be completed by April 30, 2014. However, as on date no progress has taken place and not a single brick has been moved so as to give an impression that construction work on bridge is on.

| | | | 4 years later, rules of Benami Transaction Prohibition Act yet to be framed | | Bid to cover up shady deals of politicians, bureaucrats, police officers? | | | Akshay Azad
Jammu, Nov 19: In an obvious attempt to cover up shady deals and bogus investments of several noted politicians, bureaucrats and police officers of the state, the coalition Government has chosen to sleep over Benami Transaction Prohibition Act and close to four years after the legislation was passed; Government is yet to frame rules under it.
Sources informed Early Times that on March, 2, 2010, the State Legislative Assembly had passed Benami Transaction Prohibition Act-2010. "The Act was enacted by State Government in the backdrop of reports regarding huge investment by several politicians, bureaucrats and police officers in real estate on fictitious names", sources said, add...

According to the sources, Gen Singh has sent an elaborate reply and in the light of the communication, the State Government doesn't drag the issue any more.

| | | | Soz loyalists cozying up in Azad camp, DyCM staying away....? | | Political 'equlibrium' changing within Congress factions | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 19: Even as the just concluded 3 day whirlwind tour of Congress stalwart and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad remained confined to erstwhile Doda region in the fold of which he reached farthest end of some places, his visit has ruffled political feathers within the party for a conspicuous reason. Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand who is considered to be staunchest loyalist of Azad became conspicuous by his absence in all the public functions nor was he seen in a small function at a Jammu hotel where all other Congressmen converged with an atypical sycophantic style and conduct as ever in any gathering having Azad as the main guest. This has fuelled specu...
| | | | No action against teachers who closed school for Congress rally | | Political affiliation prevails over call of duty | | | Saahil Suhail
ANANTNAG, Nov 19: Unable to conceal his political affinity, Director School Education Kashmir, who couple of days ago had assured strict action against the teachers who had closed school just to facilitate Congress rally in Laln Ganoor area of Anantnag district has chosen to ignore the incident in complete departure from resolve he exhibited earlier.
Highly placed sources said that Director School Education Kashmir, Tariq Ali is himself close to Congress party in the state and hence could not have taken action against teachers for facilitating conduct of political rally of party he himself followed.
Pertinent to mention that, on last Friday, the teachers had conveyed to the...
| | | | NC virus infects Jitendra Rana! | | | |
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 19: National Conference Provincial President for Jammu and Chief Minister's former advisor, Davender Singh Rana lives up to the traditions of his organization at a rally. Ignoring the lesser mortals sitting in front of him, he looks behind to pose for a photo.
While these traits are common in National Conference leaders, Davender's brother Jitendra Singh Rana who is affiliated to BJP also seems infected by the NC virus. He too ignores the people in front of him at BJP rally, looks behind like his brother to pose for a photo.
However, one has to appreciate the chemistry between them. While Ambanis fought each other over the estate/business left by their fa...

| | | | Indecisive high command compounds problems of State Cong | | Alliance blues | | | Bashir Assad
SRINAGAR, Nov 19: Indecisiveness on part of Congress High Command about the future alliance in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of 2014 elections has resulted in uncertainty and chaos within State Congress.
If the sources are to be believed the tall leaders of the Congress party from Jammu and Kashmir including Ghulam Nabi Azad, Professor Saif-ud-Din Soz, Dr. Karan Singh and Makhan Lal Fotedar are actually clueless on the question of alliance with National Conference or People’s Democratic Party in J&K.
Sources said though the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and some senior Congress leaders were favouring a re-look on Congress-NC alliance in the state but no word is coming from...
| | | | Heritage up for grabs! | | | |
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 19: It has become customary for many organizations to exploit the common man's attachment to past and the heritage of one's land. The worst part of this weakness is that the well meaning sincere common people are taken for a ride. The latest in this series of exploitation is the celebrating of World Heritage Week at Dogra Art Museum from November 19 to November 24. As if celebrating heritage is the exclusive preserve and privilege of the few, the organizers have claimed to display coins from the old times including the British period.
How gullible do the organizers think the common man in our society is proved by the fact that there has always been some und...

The PG doctors manage the emergency department of the GMC hospital day and night and have to face huge rush of patients round the clock. As the specialized doctors are only available during the day hours, the PG doctors manage the affairs on their own during night hours.
At a time when the number of patients is increasing, the PG doctors are also under lot of pressure. Being stressed, they shout at patients and attendants to give vent to their anger. "While I was in GMC emergency unit on Wednesd...
| | | | PDP hits back, charges NC with selling out people's trust | | Politics of attacks and counter attacks | | | Neha
Jammu, Nov 19: Stung by the NC attack the PDP on Monday had hit back and charged the NC with bartering the trust and confidence of the people of the state to enjoy loaves and fishes of office. The attack this time came from PDP president Mehbooba Mufti. Without mincing words, she said that the people of the state in general and Kashmir valley in particular would avenge their humiliations and teach the NC a befitting lesson. Her charge against the NC was very specific and the charge was that the NC has consistently sold out the trust and confidence of the people of Kashmir for power and luxuries.
"Omar Abdullah has nothing to show as his performance report to the people at the end of ...
| | | | Prospect of PDP, BJP alliance keeping NC leadership awake in the night | | Omar feeling heat, wants pre-poll alliance with Cong | | | Rustam
Jammu, Nov 19: National Conference (NC) working president and Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is not very sure if his party would repeat even its 2008 performance in the upcoming elections to remain relevant in state politics. His problems are manifold. In Kashmir, he has to reckon with the PDP whose popularity graph is rising with each passing day. If the prevailing political situation across the Valley is any indication, then one can surely assume that the PDP this time would perform exceedingly well in the militant-infested Kashmir and the NC would further lose its politico-communal space to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti who have been working day a...

Bishnah, Nov 19: The lifeline of Jammu - Ranbir Canal, which caters to irrigation needs of the large number of farmers in the Jammu region but the exhausted/worn-out condition of its sub canal in Bishnah, stands a testimony to the official apathy and lack of civic sense.
If recalled here Ranbir Canal has the largest irrigation net work since its inception 1905 AD. Main canal and its distribution system provides irrigation to an area of 29700 hectares upto village Nekowal on International border.
Residents living along the banks of canal are upset at the indifferent attitude towards the life line of many villages in Bishan by the concerned authorities.

This is the first time when someone has took such a stand and this is being perceived as a slap on the face of the Government. This has also exposed the flaws in running the NRHM scheme.
