ABID SHAH
NEW DELHI, DEC 15: Quite a few factors are coming together to cast their shadow over Centre’s initiative to take the heat out of Jammu and Kashmir’s separatist leaders campaign against New Delhi and involve them in meaningful talks in order to bring peace and stability to the Valley.
The impossibility of this again looms large over the Valley in the wake of sharp reaction in Srinagar to the clean chit given by the Central Bureau of Investigation to the local cops held earlier after two women were found dead in Shopian amid allegations of rape and murder against the police.
The State Government that plays its role in concert with that of the Centre unfortunately to...

Police sources said when the border cops switch on their wireless sets, militants come on the line and start conversing with them, often asking them about their "well-being" and the situation on this side of the border.

| | | | High command least bothered as Congress remains disarrayed | | | | Early Times Report
Jammu Dec 16: Despite a brief intervention from the top leadership, the Congress structure in Jammu and Kashmir continues to be in a state of disarray as the party high command is not initiating steps to coax up the warring factions.
Last months, on repeated complaints from the loyalists, there was a brief intervention which made some dissidents to lay low for a while but the party leadership and the organizational office bearers, like AICC general secretary, are making no effort to streamline the J&K unit of Congress. The high command, insiders say, instead of defusing the crisis the tussle between the dissidents, led by the Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad,...

| | | | 51 not an auspicious number for JKTDC | | | |
SANT KUMAR SHARMA
Jammu, December 16:
Be it in marriages or in case of birthdays, the number 51 is considered auspicious. On a good number of such occasions, it is a common practice to give money in denominations like 151, 251, 351, 551 and even 1051.
For the Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC), however, the number 51 is a number to be dreaded. Why? The reason is not very difficult to find as the number of employees on deputation to JKTDC from the tourism department is 51.
These 51 employees doing duty away from their parent department are drawing salaries higher than the JKTDC staff. And some of them have a ``sarkari’’ (read lazy and devil may care) atti...
