| Vice Chairmen for 3 Boards: Soz proposes, Sonia admits | | | |

JAMMU, Feb 9
United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi has cleared the names proposed by Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz for the appointment of Vice Chairmen of three prestigious Boards in the State.
If sources in New Delhi are to be believed, Sonia Gandhi has given her approval to the names of three persons proposed by Soz for Vice Chairmen in three prestigious boards for Gujjars and Bakerwals, Schedule Caste, Schedule Tribe and Other Backward Classes.
Sources confirmed that Bashir Naz of Poonch would take over as new Vice Chairman of Board for Gujjars and Bakerwals while the names of Swaran Lata and Kuldeep Raj have been cleared by the All India Congress Committee president for the posts of Vice Chairmen in Board for Schedule Caste & Schedule Tribe and Board for Other Backward Classes respectively.

Jammu, Feb 9: Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad Tuesday expressed fear that the proposed surrender policy for Kashmiri youth who are in Pakistan and want to return without weapons may turn out to be attempts at infiltration.
On Tuesday when Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad arrived here in Jammu he toed altogether a different line over the centres' proposed move to alter surrender policy aimed at rehabilitating youth who crossed over to Pakistan occupied Kashmir and eager to head back after laying down arms. Azad also raised a question mark over initiating dialogue process with Pakistan in the absence of punishment to perpetrators of Mumbai terror attack.

JAMMU, Feb 9: Jammu and Kashmir Industrial Sector has received another shot in the arm as the State Government has secured another ten year extension of Central Excise Package or Refund on Value Addition for the State from the Union Finance Ministry.

In a bid to check the sugar prices, a proposal to ban use of sugar for Industry has been referred to Law Ministry.
The government has said that the confectionery and soft drinks industries are largest bulk sugar consumers.
According to the report, soft drink and confectionery industry uses 65 percent sugar.

JAMMU, Feb 9: Of the 43 labourers of the state forest corporation (SFC), who were trapped in an avalanche amid heavy snowfall in the far-flung Massu Paddar area of Kishtwar today, 24 were rescued, while there was no trace of the 19 others.
Official sources said 43 labourers were engaged by SFC for the collection and transportation of timber at Massu Paddar. While they were doing their work in the morning, it started snowing heavily, the sources added.Sources said before they could move to safety, an avalanche occured as a result of which all of them were trapped.

Srinagar, Feb 9: Two securitymen and a civilian were killed and 10 others injured as snowfall and rains triggered fresh avalanches and landslides in Kashmir valley on Tuesday, raising the death toll to 20 in two days.
An avalanche buried an army post in a forward area in Tangdhar sector, 145 kms from here in Kupwara district, around 0345 hours trapping 14 jawans. Though all of them were taken out of snow, one died later, a defence spokesman said.

JAMMU, Feb 9: As fresh snowfall yesterday occured in the Trikuta Hills, housing the holy cave of Mata Vaishno Devi, and other higher reaches across the region, two pilgrims, including an old
woman, died in bone-chilling cold en route to the bhavan late Monday night.
Police sources said Suman Kumar (57) of Gandhi Market, Ambala Cantonment, Haryana, reached Bhavan along with his family members at about 11.45 pm Monday. As it was too cold, he started shivering, the sources added.
He was then taken to the dispensary in the Bhavan premises where he died at about 12.15 am. Parvati (78) too died of cold at Adh Kunwari. She hailed from Maharashtra.
