JAMMU, Feb 04: A day after killing two top Lashkar militants at Patti Mohalla in Kishtwar, security forces today achieved another major success when they gunned down a Pak-trained Supreme Commander of Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami (HUJI) and his two deputies in a fierece gun battle in Kishtwar's Khankhu Dhar Ridge forests near Bela Chicha.
Police sources said acting on a tip-off about the presence of militants in the Khankhu Dhar Ridge forests, police and troops of 11 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and 26 RR jointly launched a "seek and destroy" operation in the area this morning.
While the troops were combing the woods, three militants, who were hiding in the area, fired at them, resulting in the instant death of sepoy Ravi Kant of 11 RR.
The other jawans retaliated and in the ensuing exchange of fire that lasted over two hours, the troops killed all the three militants.

Srinagar, Feb 4: Barring a few officials, nobody was present to receive the Chief Minister at Shopian today where he had to attend the district board meeting. The town wore a deserted look in response to a call by Majlis-e-Mushawarat.
The Majlis, that seeks justice for the relatives of Aasiya and Neelofar who were raped and murdered on May 29 last year, had called for strike to protest Chief Minister’s failure to bring the culprits to justice.

JAMMU, Feb 04: Four persons were killed and at least 14 others wounded, some of them critically, in two road mishaps across the region this morning.
The first mishap occured at Berha Morh, about 12 km from here on the upper Akhnoor road, at about 8.30 am when a minibus overturned in the middle of the road, resulting in the death of a commuter and injuries to at least 11 others.
The dead was identified as Kuldeep Kumar of Kote. The injured -- Vandana Jamwal, Rajinder Kumar, Suram Singh, Ghulam Rasool, Subash Kumar, Naresh Kumar, Shifali, Sobha Singh, Anjana, Banti and Bina Devi -- were admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital here.
