3/11/2012 12:24:54 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 10: Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Beig once again dismissed as 'misleading and false' the explanations given by the Finance Minister A R Rather in his reply on Budget debate and contended giving 'wrong' information in the House amounted to Breach of privilege on his part. "The Finance Minister has only mentioned about targets….there is no mention of a single step about the roadmap I asked in his arguments ….even if we believe the figures and targets he is talking about how do we reach those targets…", Beig said observing that under the existing pattern of targets and failure of the government to reduce the deficit, the state would face debt amount to the tune of 125 % of total income. Geelani's house arrest
3/11/2012 12:22:44 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 10: The Chief Minister, it seems, has not learnt a lesson from his mistakes. A few days after Osama bin Laden's killing, Omar said detaining Geelani was a mistake. "I will not make him a hero again", he said. Geelani was allowed to proceed to Batmaloo where he led a poorly attended funeral prayer (in absentia) for slain Osama. "Geelani was allowed to reach Batmaloo Friday to lead funeral of Osama with a purpose. Had we stopped him, he would say that thousands of people would have assembled to participate in the prayers." Understanding Kashmir problem
Jammu & Ladakh
3/11/2012 12:20:33 AM
Neha JAMMU, Mar 10: Jammu & Kashmir is an integral part of the Indian political system, whatever it is. The only difference is that while the adult population in the rest of the country elects governments every five years, here the electorate exercises this right once in six years. In 1975, the Indira Gandhi-led Congress government enhanced the life of the Lok Sabha and the assemblies from five to six years after amending the constitution, an extreme step aimed at retaining an office which was slipping out of her hands. The National Conference Government followed suit and enhanced the life of the assembly. In 1977-78, the Janata Party government of Morarji Desai did away with the amendment...

Congress losing its hold across the country, including J&K
National Scene
3/11/2012 12:19:55 AM
Rustam JAMMU, Mar 10: Will the Congress win the next general elections and form government at the centre third time in a row? If the today's national scene is any indication, then it can be safely said that the Congress is out to bite dust across the country, that the BJP would emerge as the single largest party and that a number of major states would vote for regional parties. That the Congress has lost its support-base to the BJP and other non-Congress parties could be seen from the number of states being ruled by the non-Congress formations and these are all major states, which return to the Lok Sabha almost 75 per cent members out of 542 members. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is ruling Or...
