Cabinet approves Bill to enhance salaries of Legislators, Ministers

Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 2: In what can be seen as a significant step towards strengthening the financial position of the legislators and ministers, the state cabinet today approved a Bill which aims at enhancing their salaries and remuneration by substantial amount from henceforth. The provisions in the Bill which is being tabled during the current session of Assembly, will also take care of the interests of pensioner Legislators whose pension has also been proposed to be hiked accordingly. In the cabinet meeting held under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the state cabinet also approved one more important Bill that intends to make the functioning of State Accountability Commission different than what it used to be till date. Sources said the main provisions focus on separating the category of employees from the purview of the powers of this Act. "The smooth relations between India and Pakistan have good effect on our state and bad relations create an adverse result. Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 2: Demanding reduction in their syllabuses for the upcoming final examinations, students of different city colleges today smashed up the administrative block of Jammu University (JU) and violently broke other things that came their way. At least 100 students of different city colleges gathered outside the MAM PG College at about 11 am and held a strong demonstration in support of their demand. They also beat up a minibus driver outside the college, besides causing damage to its window panes. Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 2: Over 1,000 kilograms of opium straw was seized by police from smugglers at three places across the region today. Police intercepted a truck (PB05/7265) at Lakhanpur in Kathua and recovered 800 kg poppy straw from it.One person was arrested in this connection. He was identified as Javed of Awantipura. In another incident, a truck driver and a conductor were arrested by police at Shafapani near Banihal with 205 kilograms of poppy straw.
