| Accountability Comm to function as 'Lokayukt' | | Cabinet approves Bill to enhance salaries of Legislators, Ministers | | |

Jammu, Mar 2: In what can be seen as a significant step towards strengthening the financial position of the legislators and ministers, the state cabinet today approved a Bill which aims at enhancing their salaries and remuneration by substantial amount from henceforth. The provisions in the Bill which is being tabled during the current session of Assembly, will also take care of the interests of pensioner Legislators whose pension has also been proposed to be hiked accordingly.
In the cabinet meeting held under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the state cabinet also approved one more important Bill that intends to make the functioning of State Accountability Commission different than what it used to be till date. Sources said the main provisions focus on separating the category of employees from the purview of the powers of this Act. Jammu, Mar 2: Welcoming the resumption of talks between India and Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said the relation between the neighbours has a direct bearing on the state.
"The smooth relations between India and Pakistan have good effect on our state and bad relations create an adverse result. So we must welcome the dialogue process between the countries," Abdullah told legislative council here.
The Chief Minister was referring to the recent Foreign Secretary-level talks between Indian and Pakistan held in New Delhi, which saw the countries resume deliberations after a hiatus of 14 months after the 26/11 attacks.

Jammu, Mar 2: Demanding reduction in their syllabuses for the upcoming final examinations, students of different city colleges today smashed up the administrative block of Jammu University (JU) and violently broke other things that came their way.
At least 100 students of different city colleges gathered outside the MAM PG College at about 11 am and held a strong demonstration in support of their demand.
