TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Govt has no faith in Accountability Commission
CM, Peerzada, advisors, Chairpersons rush to High Court before being declared guilty
3/4/2012 11:22:31 PM
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz SRINAGAR, Mar 4: They are all indisputably by law entitled to seek any relief from High Court. But, what the top functionaries of the Executive have conveyed by getting proceedings of Jammu and Kashmir Accountability Commission (SAC) stayed in last two weeks, is bizarre: They have no faith in the accountability watchdog they have been hailing invariably at all public meetings. Everybody, from Chief Minister to Chief Secretary and Ministers to Commissioners, has been appreciating it as a proud achievement of the National Conference-led coalition government that Public Service Guarantee Act had been introduced, State Information Commission (SIC) constituted and the SAC revived in the last three years. Particularly in the last one year, there has been hardly a statement, press conference or public speech which has gone without claiming credit for these "revolutionary achievements". In a reality check, one counters little hardship to learn that over 95% of the public servants as well as public continue to be ignorant of PSGA. State Vigilance Commission has failed ...

Retired OSDs, Private Secretaries ruling the roost
3/4/2012 10:48:37 PM
Bashir Assad Jammu, Mar 04: In gross violation of service rules and laws, the ministers in Jammu and Kashmir have started a phenomenon of appointing retired officials as Officers on Special Duty (OSD's) and private secretaries in their offices which according to sources has culminated into an unholy nexus facilitating corruption and malpractices in the administration. In spite of the fact that these ministers have the private secretaries in their offices, yet they put retired officers in addition to the staff as OSD's in their offices. It is interesting to see that these OSD's are holding chambers which special secretaries/ additional secretaries are entitled to along with the gov...

RUSTAM JAMMU, Mar 4: Assembly elections in five state, including Uttar Pradesh (UP), Punjab, Uttrakhand, Goa and Manipur, are over. Results will be out on Tuesday. In the meantime, all the various post-poll surveys have indicated that the UP electorate has rejected outright the Congress of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Robert Vadra.
