Taking the fresh bout of controversy –no dual currency proposal –perhaps to the point of no return, the patron of Peoples Democratic Party and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today reiterated and explained that he actually meant what is being debated in the media and political circles.
Ever since Mufti was quoted as suggesting use of Pakistan currency in Jammu and Kashmir, during his public meeting in Mahore, there had not been any official endorsement of denial from the Peoples Democratic Party. However, the statement today came straight from horse’s mouth as Mufti confirmed proposing the use of Pakistani currency here and vice versa.
Addressing a press conference here this afternoon, which was more like a PR exercise, the former Chief Minister said that he has mooted this idea for making Jammu and Kashmir a model among the countries of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and to facilitate trade across the Line of Control (LoC).
