JAMMU, Apr 27: A day after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in Delhi, the Cabinet Sub Committee which has been constituted to look into the employees' issue in the wake of their recent strike in support of demands, convened a meeting here today. In the meeting held under the chairmanship of Omar Abdullah it was decided to hold meeting with leaders of employees' organizations and unions before Durbaar shifts back to summer capital. Most likely the meeting will take place on April 29.
Even as the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is not a member of the five member Cabinet sub committee, his presence in the meeting held in his office chambers this evening assumes significance, particularly in the wake of his meeting with Union Minister in the capital on Monday. JAMMU, Apr 27: Five persons, including a couple and a two-year-old boy, were killed and 43 others injured, 10 of them critically, when a bus in which they were travelling today skidded off the road at Kaghot in Ramnagar, Udhampur, and fell into a gorge.
The ill-fated bus (JK02K/3255) was on its way from Udhampur to Padiari in Ramnagar.
Police sources said the mishap occured at about 5.45 pm when the driver failed to negotiate a sharp curve at Kaghot as a result of which the bus fell into a deep gorge.
Four persons were killed on the spot, while one succumbed to his injuries in the Udhampur district hospital, the sources added.

NEW DELHI, Apr 27: Aided by a sudden turn around by Bahujan Samaj Party and friends-turned-foes Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Janata Dal, the government today cleared the first major trial of strength in Lok Sabha by a big margin by defeating the cut motions on petroleum prices exposing huge chinks in opposition armour.
The much-hyped trial of strength proved to be a dampener when the cut motion moved by CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta on failure to formulate proper policies on petroleum products was defeated by a margin of 88 votes.

New Delhi, Apr 27: Fifty BJP MPs on Tuesday tabled a breach of privilege notice in Lok Sabha against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for announcing outside Parliament his decision to reject setting up of a joint parliamentary committee on the issue of alleged phone tapping.
The MPs submitted the petition to Lok Sabha Secretary General P D T Achary.
Their action comes close on the heels of Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj objecting to the Prime Minister's announcement on the issue.

NEW DELHI, Apr 27: Seven Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from Jammu and Kashmir cadre have been empanelled to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and equal level posts by the Union Home Ministry.
These officials are Rauful Hassan, Danesh Rana, Manish Kumar Sinha, Mubarik Hassan Ganie, JP Singh, Mukesh Singh and Sunil Kumar.
The name of these officers figures in a list of 101 officers recently released by Union Home Ministry for similar empanelment of IPS officers throughout the country.
Besides Rauful Hassan, who is a1994 batch J&K IPS officer, all six others belong to 1996 batch.

JAMMU: The Srinagar international airport will close for commercial flights for about a fortnight in June so that the runway can be upgraded, an official said on Tuesday.
The airport would close from June 15 and commercial flight operations would be shifted to Awantipore Air Force station, 35 km south of Srinagar, for that period.
This is the second time in the past 12 years that commercial flight operations would undergo this change. In the summer of 1998, the airport was closed for three months and flights operated from Awantipore.
