Why does Chairman J&K Bank keep away Secretary Finance?
Iqbal Khanday fails to become Director on Board for 6 months
6/6/2012 12:15:25 AM
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz SRINAGAR, June 5: Government of Jammu & Kashmir has gone unrepresented in around half-a-dozen important agenda meetings of the Board of Directors (BOD) of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in the last over five months. Senior IAS officer, Mohammad Iqbal Khanday, was appointed as Principal Secretary Finance by Omar Abdullah's Cabinet on December 16th, 2011, but he has not been appointed or declared as Director on Board in J&K Bank since last year even as the bank's most important annual event, Annual General Meeting (AGM), is being planned here within a month. By convention, as well as by the bank's Article of Association, state government's administrative Secretary of Finance Department becomes Government's nominee and Director on Board. However, the procedure involves filling up of a small form, customary recommendation of the bank's Nomination Committee that sets the agenda of Finance Secretary's appointment as Director for Board of Directors. State Government has 53.17% share in the government-controlled company. Even as IAS officer of 1978 batch, Mr Khanday, was appoin...

And when it comes to Amarnath Yatra, Omar is reminded of the comment which changed the course of 2008 land agitation. Omar made an emotive speech and ended it by saying that not an inch of land belonging to Kashmiris would be given to the Amarnath land agitators. The comment changed the face of the agitation. A commoner, Kuldeep Verma sacrificed his life but not before leaving an emotive letter for Jammuites. The letter made a mention of Omar talking about not returning the Amarnath land to the Hindus, who had been demanding it. Omar's co...

Interlocutors' Report
6/6/2012 12:14:06 AM
RUSTAM JAMMU, June 5: Former interlocutor for Jammu & Kashmir Radha Kumar is unhappy both with the Hurriyat leaders and the BJP. Her grouse against them is that they have rejected the report without even studying it. However, what has stung Radha Kumar more is the reaction of the BJP. The BJP has termed the report as "disastrous". What exactly has she said about the BJP? In an interview to an English daily only a few days ago, she said: "The BJP's reaction completely puzzles me. When it comes to J&K, the party seems to change its position every other day. Their rejection of the report is completely different to what their leadership said when we met them. Early Times Report Jammu, June 5: With different constituents of Hurriyat (M) going public on the issue of Professor Abdul Ghani Bhat's controversial statement, the possibility of cementing the cracks in the separatist conglomerate seem quite bleak. Grievances of Jammu
6/6/2012 12:13:37 AM
NEHA JAMMU, June 5: One may or may not endorse the stand of People's Democratic Party (PDP) on Jammu & Kashmir. One could also question its self-rule doctrine and say that there is no fundamental difference between the greater autonomy concept and the self-rule doctrine. But no one could question what PDP president and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Mehbooba Mufti yesterday said about National Conference (NC), Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). On Monday, she ridiculed all the three formations. She said that "while the NC leadership is busy in spending on lavish life style, the BJP and the Congress too are not associating themselves with the grievances of people e...
