SRINAGAR, June 5: Government of Jammu & Kashmir has gone unrepresented in around half-a-dozen important agenda meetings of the Board of Directors (BOD) of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in the last over five months. Senior IAS officer, Mohammad Iqbal Khanday, was appointed as Principal Secretary Finance by Omar Abdullah's Cabinet on December 16th, 2011, but he has not been appointed or declared as Director on Board in J&K Bank since last year even as the bank's most important annual event, Annual General Meeting (AGM), is being planned here within a month.
By convention, as well as by the bank's Article of Association, state government's administrative Secretary of Finance Department becomes Government's nominee and Director on Board. However, the procedure involves filling up of a small form, customary recommendation of the bank's Nomination Committee that sets the agenda of Finance Secretary's appointment as Director for Board of Directors. State Government has 53.17% share in the government-controlled company.

JAMMU, June 5: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's three and a half year tenure has seen Jammu and Kashmir passing worst of the times. And when it comes to Amarnath Yatra, Omar is reminded of the comment which changed the course of 2008 land agitation.
Omar made an emotive speech and ended it by saying that not an inch of land belonging to Kashmiris would be given to the Amarnath land agitators. The comment changed the face of the agitation. A commoner, Kuldeep Verma sacrificed his life but not before leaving an emotive letter for Jammuites. The letter made a mention of Omar talking about not returning the Amarnath land to the Hindus, who had been demanding it.

JAMMU, June 5: On day third of VHP's Amarnath Yatra movement 200 activists were arrested for violating the prohibitory orders in the City. As usual they were taken to Shri Amarnath yatri Niwas and later removed in the afternoon.
Those arrested included national spokesman VHP Dr Surinder Jain, VHP leaders Dr V K Gupta, Dr Sham, and BD leader Nand Kishore.
Before their arrest scores of VHP and Bajrang Dal (BD) activists assembled in Parade in front of Brahman Sabha and protested against the Government action for not allowing the permission to the yatris on Jesht Purnima yesterday to maintain the age old tradition of the yatra.

Srinagar, June 5: Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravishankar who is a member of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) today said there was no pressure on the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board on deciding the duration of the Amarnath yatra, which was only curtailed keeping in view the safety of the pilgrims.
"I would like to clarify to the Shiva Bhaktas who are eager to undertake the yatra that we sincerely wanted to keep the yatra from Jyeshta Purnima onwards. There was no pressure from any individual or organisation on us. It was purely a logistical challenge to ensure the safety of the yatris," the spiritual leader stated in a statement issued today.

JAMMU, June 5: Tension gripped the GMCH here today after some SPOs allegedly beat up a nursing orderly (NO) in the hospital premises.
NO Suresh Kumar (45), son of Dewan Chand of Rajpura, was on duty in the GMCH emergency wing when a man came to him for a trolley which he needed to carry a patient.
Police said when the NO asked the man to pay him Rs 50, or so, as security, which is refunded after the trolley is returned, there was an altercation between the two.
