Rather’s Budget Puts Economy In Perspective
Receipts Rs 22739 Cr, fiscal deficit down by Rs 306 Cr

Proposals: Revenue Expenditure Rs 14949 Cr, Capital Expenditure at Rs 7790 Cr EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 10: 1. Special thrust on social and infrastructure sector, mild hike in taxes 2. The current year’s total receipts pegged at Rs. 22,739 crore in comparison to last year’s Rs.19,077 crore. Rs.19,462 crore are expected as revenue receipts and Rs.3,277 crore as capital receipts. 3. The current year’s total revenue expenditure is estimated at Rs.14,949 crore, indicating a revenue-surplus of Rs.4,513 crore. The total capital expenditure is estimated at Rs.7,790 crore. 4. The fiscal deficit is estimated to come down to Rs.2,081 crore representing 5.4% of our current year’s estimated GSDP in comparison to 6.9% of last year. 5. Total tax revenue of the State is estimated at Rs.3,111 crore for the current financial year as against Rs.2,693 crore of last year. The tax GSDP ratio is expected to improve to 11.2% in comparison to 11.0% of last year. 6. Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 10: A Pakistani national escaped from Khour police station late sunday night sources said. According to police spokesman, "a Pakistni national identified as Mohd Zahid son of Mohd Akbar resident of Dahibal in Pakistan, lodged in Khour police station managed to escape from the Khour police station late sunday night.’ ‘Zahid had inadvertently crossed in to the Indian side in 2006 and after completing his sentence in 2008 Zahid was waiting for his expatriation to his country. Early Times Report Poonch, Aug 10: Security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir have intensified vigilance along the Line of Control (LoC) as they fear infiltration to pick up with the melting of snow at high altitudes. Sources said Troops of 18 Mahar Regiment of the Indian army, who have been keeping round the clock vigil at Aangan Pathri post on Pirpanjal range in the state''s Poonch sector, said they are on alert to foil any infiltration bid. Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 10- Normal life was affected here Monday due to Jammu bandh call given by Central University Andolan Samiti (CUAS)-a conglomerate of social, political and student groups demanding setting up of Central University in Jammu region. The BJP State Chief and MLA Ashok Khajuria were among 30 others arrested during bandh in Jammu City. The arrests were made after the BJP activists tried to take out a rally in violation of prohibitory orders under section 144 Cr PC, police said. Dozens of private B.Ed. colleges affiliated to the university brought in crores of rupees into the university kitty. At least half of these colleges, perhaps more, are owned by politicians, cutting across party lines.
