Srinagar, August 31: The Bill to ban inter-district recruitments, which has divided the coalition government along party lines, has been stalled for now. On Monday, the Congress members, led by the Deputy Chief Minister, Mr Tara Chand, sought the Central leadership’s intervention to stall it.
Even though the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar today tabled report of the Joint Select Committee in the Legislative Assembly but sources asserted that government may not push for discussion and passage of the Bill in current session as Congress is averse to it.
The party chief whip, Mr Ghulam Ahmed Mir, and several legislators from both Jammu and Kashmir regions, supported the Deputy Chief Minister, in seeking deferment of the Bill. The party leadership does not want it to snowball it into a Jammu versus Kashmir confrontation and controversy, according to party sources.

JAMMU, Aug 31: Department of Mathematics walked away with the honour of scaling maximum merit whereas Physics and geography followed the suit, as University of Jammu (JU) declared the first cut off list for admission to various Post Graduate courses here today.
The cut off figures in maximum departments were purely in accordance with the tradition, as Faculty of Sciences recorded the relatively higher cut off percentages in comparison to all other Faculties. In Mathematics, the merit went to the maximum of 90.09 percent and cutted off at 79.95 percent whereas disciplines of Physics and Geography also recorded the merit in excess of 86 percent. Jammu, Aug 31: In yet another banking racket in the hilly Chenab Valley region, a bank cashier has been reported missing from his office and home with Rs 39 lakh deposits.
This is third incident of its kind in the twin districts of Doda and Kishtwar in less than two months. Earlier, a bank branch at Kishtwar was found burgled of more than Rs 1.5 Crore and an insider hand was suspected. Recently, case distribution of fake currency to the customers also surfaced.

New Delhi, Aug 31 : Admitting intrusion of Chinese planes into Indian airspace Army chief Gen Deepak Kapoor today played down the incident, saying it could have been due to navigational error.
Commenting on the reported intrusion by at least two Chinese Army helicopters in Pangong Tso Lake in Jammu and Kashmir's Ladakh region, Gen Kapoor said the intrusion did take place but may have been because of technical reasons and not necessarily purposeful.
