8-point peace package News ANALYSIS
9/26/2010 11:58:34 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Sept 26: Will the 8-point package, which the Government of India announced on Saturday, help restoration of pace and normalcy to the Kashmir valley which has been rattled by violent civilian unrest during the last three and a half months which left over 105 people dead ?This question does not seem to have any fixed reply because those separatists who matter in the current Kashmir politics have rejected the package describing it as a mere "eyewash." Reports indicate that the hardliners among the separatists have started believing that when the Government of India could concede some of "our main demands"why will it not accept "our demand for grant of right of self...

Problem of Jammu & Ladakh political, they need political package, not task force
9/26/2010 11:54:48 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sep 26: New Delhi has once again badly let down Jammu and Ladakh. It has again given a preferential treatment to Kashmir. It has given incentives to those who attacked the Army, paramilitary forces and the state police. It has asked the state government to release those involved in the anti-state and anti-government activities. It has asked the Chief Minister to convene the Unified Command meeting to review the AFSPA and the defence-related issue. In fact, it has given everything to Kashmir. It is a different matter that Kashmir has expressed its unhappiness over what New Delhi has given to it. And, its response is on expected lines. The Kashmiri leadership wants...

Geelani's statement evokes widespread ridicule
Accession to Pakistan? News ANALYSIS
9/26/2010 11:54:32 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Sept 26: Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani's recent statement has evoked severe reaction across Kashmir. Geelani ruled out third option (Independent Kashmir) and said accession to Pakistan was the only option available. The statement has been taken with a pinch of salt. While some say it was totally uncalled for, a few accuse the leader of triggering an ideological war. A good number of `concerned persons' suggest an intra-state dialogue. Geelani, some quarters believe, is not aware of the meaning and scope of self-determination. "On the one hand he tirelessly talks about self-determination and on the other hand he tries to impose his views on the people. T...

Tinkering with AFSPA would mean tinkering Indian sovereignty
9/26/2010 11:53:23 PM
RUSTAM EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sep 26: The beleaguered Chief Minister, who has created the whole mess, had perhaps entertained the belief that he would be able to hide his own misdeeds, failures and blunders and mislead the all-party parliamentary delegation and make members of the Parliament believe that the AFSPA, Army and paramilitary forces were responsible for what had been happening in Kashmir, particularly since June 11. This didn't happen. What happened was to the contrary. If reports from New Delhi are any indication, then it can be authoritatively said that there is consensus among most of the members of the delegation that one of the major causes that led to the rise of a ne...
