TOP STORY OF THE DAY
BJP clings to Accession issue with call for state wide agitation
Will Omar ever revert to what he stated in Assembly.........?
11/18/2010 11:24:15 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 18: Nearly 10 days after its call for Jammu bandh on the first day of reopening of Durbar offices here, BJP has now come out with its fresh schedule of what it intends to 'followed' as state -wide agitation against the utterances of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on the issue of Accession besides continuation of discrimination with Jammu. J&K National Panthers Party, which remained 'co partner' in raising loud cry and noise for at least two days outside the Assembly last month, has now chosen complete silence over the issue. In a public rally to be attended by some national leaders on November 20 , the local unit of BJP is going to announce the programme in connection with launching of the agitation across the state. So far as the convening of a political rally is concerned, it may augur well for 'activating' the workers and cadres who have not seen any activity of the sort for along time now. Moreover, the presence of some national leaders will certainly enthuse the workers and local leadership as well. But one wonders why the party leadership in t...

People term removal of Kashmir from UN list a positive step, vindication of nationalist stand
11/18/2010 11:23:48 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 18: The continuance of violence in Valley has lost its relevance with the removal of Kashmir issue from UN list and it is high time for the separatists and anti national elements to shun the path of violence and join the national main stream in the larger interests of the nation. While the removal of Kashmir issue from UN list has vindicated the Indian stand, it has given a great setback to Pakistan and the separatist groups supported by it. The decision, which has been widely welcomed by nationalist forces in the state is also a great achievement for India and its secular values. The nationalist forces in the state while terming the decision a vindication o...

Omar should stay in Kashmir because his heart is there
11/18/2010 11:23:34 PM
RUSTAM EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 18: It was on November 8 that the civil secretariat reopened in Jammu after a gap of six months. It was expected that the secretariat, which remained dysfunctional in Kashmir for all practical purposes between April and October, would start functioning in the winter capital in the real sense of the term and the state government address Jammu's concerns. It was also expected that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who had outraged the sensitivities of the people of Jammu province by making a highly provocative and controversial statement on the floor of the assembly on October 6 that Jammu and Kashmir had only acceded to India and not merged, would do someth...

Moderate separatists seek PDP and NC support for Gen Musharraf's four-point formula on Kashmir
11/18/2010 11:23:18 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 18: Hardliners among the separatists, headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, and the moderates, led by Molvi Umar Farooq, continue to be divided as far as their acceptance of Gen. Parvez Musharraf's four-point formula on Kashmir is concerned. As President of Pakistan Musharraf had dished out his plan in 2006 and even after his self-imposed hibernation in London Pervez Musharraf claims that the Indian side, which had been sent the details of the formula through back channel, had agreed on it. The moderates among the separatists believe that implementation of Gen. Musharraf's four-point formula was an ideal solution to the vexed Kashmir dispute. When asked why the s...

11/18/2010 11:23:06 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Nov 18: Former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad was sent to Jammu Kashmir to revive Congress. Initially he succeeded but failed at a crucial moment. He not only damaged Congress but also infused `new life in the freedom movement'. According to his critics, the Azadi slogan was revived in his regime. He is also accused of creating a wedge between Jammu and the Valley. It was almost all over in 2008. Many separatists were also getting ready to contest the assembly elections. But then happened a miracle. Freedom movement gained momentum. We are thankful to former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad for infusing new life in the movement. This is how a renowned se...

DIRECT, MINCING NO WORDS - III
11/18/2010 11:22:29 PM
NEHA EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 18: What is the moral of the story? The moral of the story is that Thimpu, where our Prime Minister virtually re-enacted Sharm-el-Sheikh on April 29, 2010, has, now it appears, become a story of the past. At Thimpu, Yousuf Raza Gilani had reiterated his Sharm-el-Sheikh stand - composite dialogue must go on even if there was violence in Kashmir and involvement of India in Baluchistan. Two days earlier (April 27), the uncouth Pakistani Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, had said at Thimpu that any meeting between the two Prime Ministers should address the need to "resume a full-fledged peace dialogue. It's time for India to make up its mind whether it...
