| | Soz adds to NC’s worries by favoring implementation of 73rd, 74th amendments | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
By Ashwani Bhat
JAMMU, Nov 21:- The Congress has reiterated its stand on holding the local bodies elections on non party basis. This has been once again made clear by the Pradesh Congress Committee chief and former Union Minister, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz while addressing a rally of his Party at PCC Headquarters, Srinagar today.
Adding to the worries of the alliance partner, Prof Soz however said that Panchayts in J&K would be modernized and empowered by weaving the 73rd and 74th amendment of the Constitution of India in to the J&K Panchayat Act to which its alliance partner NC in principle does not agree.
It may be recalled that the Finance Minister and senior NC lea...
| | Need to pursue Indira Gandhi’s line on J-K | DIRECT, MINCING NO WORDS -- I | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Nov 21: On Friday, at least three ministers, a few senior Congress leaders, including JKPCC office-bearers, and some party workers gathered at the party headquarters, Jammu, to remember former AICC president and Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on the occasion of her 93rd birth anniversary. From the speeches, which were made by one particular minister and one particular JKPCC vice-president, it became clear that most of the Congressmen in Jammu were extremely unhappy with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and that there is a powerful faction within the Congress that wants the party high command to revive the 2002 power-sharing formula: rotational Chief Minister-ship.

JAMMU, Nov 21: As for the other issue, Prof K T Shah opined: “You must also not forget that the events that have happened have invested the other countries (United States and United Kingdom) and the sister Dominion (Pakistan) and those outside with interest in the matter. That being so they will not take any decision unilaterally made by us without demur. If you want to have peace restored, if you want to live in peace with your neighbour, you should not give needless occasion for them to say that here you are purchasing a design and committing an act and taking steps whereby your own declarations, and what is more, whatever interests the others (the people of Ja...
| | And some have leadership thrust upon them Comment | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 21: Last week former Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah said “accidental leaders had made lives of people difficult in Jammu Kashmir.” He did not name anybody but apparently he was referring to Syed Ali Geelani.
Differences with Geelani notwithstanding, nobody can say he has become a leader accidently. Dr Farooq knows it better than anybody else. Geelani has been in politics for more than six decades and has emerged as the most popular leader in Kashmir. Here an attempt is not being made to glorify Geelani. On the contrary, Dr Farooq’s statement has provided an opportunity to make a mention of those who were imposed upon this state.

| | UN clarification ‘insignificant’ | Is Kashmir issue losing sheen? | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Syed Junaid Hashmi
JAMMU, Nov 21: Clarification issued by staff of United Nation (UN) might have brought sigh of relief for Kashmiri separatist leaders but if weighed in economic parlance, issue is seemingly losing sheen in the international political scene.
For the illogical and economically disastrous moves of so-called Kashmiri separatist leaders, Kashmir is being looked more as India’s internal problem. It is in this context that despite vehement appeals of separatist leaders including firebrand separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, US President Barrack Obama did not make a mention of Kashmir during his recent visit to India.
