Police fear no longer looms over criminals; 20 burglaries, decoities in as many days
11/28/2010 9:51:21 AM
BHARAT BHUSHAN JAMMU, Nov 27: There is a theory going around among many senior officers of the state administration that police fear no longer looms over burglars and decoits, who have therefore become more conspicuous. On November 01, there were five reported burglaries, one broad daylight decoity and a chain-snatching incident. * Lalisho Devi was going home in ward No 11 of Bishnah when two motorcycle-borne youth threw chilli powder in her eyes and robbed her of a gold chain along with a locket, two gold bangles and a purse containing a ring and Rs 3,000 in cash. * In another incident, some unknown youth intercepted Sonia Verma, wife of Ravinder Kumar of Rajpura Magotrian, in her locality and snatched her gold chain. * The shop of Om Prakash was burgled by thieves at Kunjwani. Rs 5,000 in cash and some items were stolen. * Four burglaries were committed at Madha in Chenani area of Udhampur in the houses of Koushalaya Devi, wife of Bodh Raj, Hem Raj, son of Dina Nath, Trilok, son of Beli Ram, and Vijay Kumar, son of Prakash. Omar showers praises on police faced with allegations of "fake" encounters
11/28/2010 9:48:37 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 27: Even as police are under severe public criticism after the alleged "fake" encounter of Giri near Satyam Resorts here Sunday last, chief minister Omar Abdullah today showered praises on the force, describing it as one of the best in the country. Addressing attestation-cum-passing out parade of police women in basic recruit training course at Sher-e-Kashmir police training academy in Udhampur, he said J&K police were emerging as one of the best forces in the country. He, however, did not elaborate on how the force could be rated as one of the best at the national level when there was much hue and cry over the alleged criminal Giri's encounter.Giri's...

Coordination Committee meeting postponed again
It is due Congress pre occupation this time: Prof Soz
11/28/2010 9:46:52 AM
Early Times Report Jammu: Indicating ‘all is not well’ between the two alliance partners of coalition in J&K, the Coordination Committee meeting has been postponed once again for next few days. After over five months, the meeting of the coordination panel was scheduled for tomorrow. Interestingly both NC as well as Congress parties are attributing postponement this time due to the pre occupation of leaders of their own parties. “The meeting has been postponed because of Congress this time……..some leaders who are members were busy for Sunday which is why the meeting has been deferred….there is no other reason for postponement”, said Prof Saif-U-Din Soz, President of J&K PCC, who is the Cha...

Geelani warns Govt against ‘victimization’ of employees
Shutdown fails but SHO-advocate clash gives Hurriyat chief some ‘cause of action’
11/28/2010 9:46:11 AM
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz SRINAGAR, Nov 27: Chairman of so-called hardline faction of the separatist Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, has taken exception to IGP Kashmir S M Sahai’s revelation of 135 government employees being involved in stone pelting. Warning a fresh agitation, he expressed Hurriyat’s solidarity with the government employees and asserted that those “pursuing a cause for their nation” would not be left in the lurch. Like in the last one month, Geelani-sponsored shutdown today was a flop show as official, civilian and commercial transport operated in entire Valley and most of the shops, business establishments, banks, government offices and educational institutes...

11/28/2010 9:45:38 AM
JAMMU, Nov 27: A day after three members of a family, including a BSF cop, got killed in a shell explosion at their residence at Kotli Charkan-Kullah in Bishnah, three similar live shells were recovered from the village canal early this morning. The shells were said to have been thrown into the canal by the victims' family, according to police sources. BSF cop Avinash Singh (32), his daughter Lovely (1.5) and elder brother Kulbir Singh were killed and six other family members, including old parents, were wounded critically in the explosion. Woman cop protests anti-pak slogans
11/28/2010 9:42:46 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 27: Even as government is contemplating to initiate action against ‘anti-national’ state employees for their covert and overt support to the separatist forces, a lady police cop in a daring act openly expressed her sympathies for India’s arch rival Pakistan during the Bharaiya Janta Party (BJP) sponsored three hour long bandh here today. The sensational drama unfolded at Bikram Chowk where a group of BJP women activists were trying to block the ever busy road. Shouting slogans “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, the BJP workers forced to stop the traffic movement but a huge posse of police contingent including lady cops prevented them from creating any hurdle. The ...

Congress continues to swallow all insults, Why?
11/28/2010 9:41:48 AM
STARK REALITY RUSTAM EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 27: If the Congress leadership in J&K has any self-respect, it must sever all ties with the NC forthwith and create an environment that leads to fresh elections in the state. This is the only course left for the Congress to prove that it will not allow the ungrateful NC to despise and ridicule the Congress party any longer. Its association with the NC even for a moment now would establish that the JKPCC leadership has no self-respect and that it is so weak that it has no other option left but to support the NC-led government even if NC leaders abuse, ridicule and publicly target New Delhi. Why should the Congress come out of the NC-...

Corruption: All is not well even with State Advisory Board
11/28/2010 9:41:20 AM
ET EXCLUSIVE EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Nov 27: The finding of the Transparency International India (TII) that J&K was the second most corrupt state in India was well-founded. The TII said so twice – in 2005 and 2009. It was not based on a mere heresy. That neither Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed contested this finding in 2005 nor did Chief Minister Omar Abdullah contest it in 2009 was a vindication of the TII. In 2005, more than 100 complaints of corruption and nepotism involving ministers, bureaucrats and police official were filed with the State Accountability Commission (SAC), but nothing came out because the evil of corruption was so deep-rooted. Ironically, even the State Adv...

Let Congress high command tell Azad to wind up his shop in J&K
11/28/2010 9:40:42 AM
Early Times Report (Behind the Veil) Jammu,November 27:- When a muslim,Saba Zaffar, won the Assembly election in Bihar on the BJP ticket it clearly indicated that the heir apparent,Rahul Gandhi's bid to capture the mind of the minorities in one of the most backward states of India had failed. In addition to this the BJP was a bigger gainer even than the JD-U as it had secured more seats than it had got in the 2005 election. One of the reasons was that it got solid support from the voters in the muslim dominated areas in Bihar. That the Congress in general and Rahul Gandhi in particular got a drubbing in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly election where the party,whic...

China appears to be changing its J&K policy
11/28/2010 12:00:18 AM
AGENCY New Delhi Nov 27: China appears to be finally responding to India's concerns over the issuance of stapled visas to people of Jammu and Kashmir, a matter taken up recently by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao. In a move indicative of shift in Chinese policy on Jammu and Kashmir, Tanya Gupta, a singer from the state has been issued a stamped visa, instead of a stapled one, to travel to perform at the closing ceremony of the ongoing Asian Games in Guangzhou on November 27. The Chinese have been issuing visa on a separate sheet, stapled to the passports of residents of Jammu and Kashmir for more than an year, thereby questioning the state's status a...
