Mushtaq Peer took money, forged signatures; granted recognition to DOEACC centre
Skeletons continue to come out of Peer's cupboard
12/15/2013 11:21:48 PM
Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Dec 15: Diplomas and certificates offered by DOEACC in Kashmir are all set to come under scanner as the centre got recognized due to a 'fraud' carried out by former Chairman, Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE), Mushtaq Ahmad Peer who is in judicial custody for selling Common Entrance Test (CET) 2012 entrance papers. Sources told Early Times that in 2003, Peer forged the signatures of two members of three member committee formed to check the feasibility of providing recognition to Department of Electronics and Accreditation of Computer Courses (DOEACC). The forging of signatures ensured that DOEACC is given recognition despite objections raised by two members whose signatures were forged. "In 2003, DOEACC approached University of Kashmir for giving recognition to the Computer Centre where the computer courses were being offered to the students. Then Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir Prof Jalees Ahmad Khan Tareen constituted a three member committee in order to check the veracity and feasibility of granting recognition to the comput...

Shall Govt revisit its SRO 33? Abodh Sharma Jammu, Dec 15: Few days after the Director General Police Ashok Prasad got the red beacon light removed from atop his official vehicle, the junior bosses of the state police have emulated their DGP, but similar initiative by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has failed to enthuse his Ministerial colleagues to give up their obsession for red beacon lights and screeching hooters in their vehicles which scare commoners on the road to announce their 'august' presence amongst them. Exhibiting little reverence to the comprehensive direction of the Apex Court on misuse of beacon lights passed last Tuesday. The Ministers of the state continue to d...

According to official sources, the number of rape cases in the last three years has shown an increase. With 245 cases registered in year 2010, 277 cases were registered in year 2011 and 303 in the year 2012. Despite a clear surge in cases of this heinous crime, the State Government has remained insensitive towards the plight of women and has ignor...

Rahul Gandhi, inter-alia, said that the Congress would prepare its election manifesto on the basis of people's socio-economic and democratic urges and that the Congress has all along fulfilled the election promises. 12/15/2013 11:18:39 PM
Mustansir Srinagar, Dec 15 : The revised guidelines for centrally funded water supply and irrigation schemes which came into force from October 2013 have virtually brought the implementation of schemes in Jammu and Kashmir to a grinding halt for the fact that the cash starved hilly state either does not qualify for central assistance or simply fails to provide the state share. Political reservation
12/15/2013 9:39:42 PM
Neha JAMMU, Dec 15: Gujjar and Bakerwals, besides Gaddis and a few other tribal communities, got Scheduled Tribe (ST) status in 1991after years of relentless struggle. It was the government of Chandra Shekhar which conceded their demand. He could do so because the state at that time was under the President’s Rule. Had the NC or the Congress been at the helm in Jammu & Kashmir, the tribal communities would not have got the ST status under which they have been getting reservation in government jobs, educational and technical institutions and enjoying a few other rights which are available to their counterparts in rest of the country. The Kashmiri leaders belonging to all political partie...
