The killer fleet of DPS
2/9/2013 12:12:20 AM
Abodh Sharma Jammu, Feb 8: A day after a twelve year old was crushed to death by a school bus of the Delhi Public School (DPS), serious questions are being raised over the killer fleet of the school which has been operating in contravention of norms and brazen violation of all the directions of the Supreme Court and the State High Court issued from time to time. The fleet of old and dilapidated 52- seater buses sans all Supreme Court guidelines with regards to school buses except for the yellow colour. While most of these buses are 15-20 years old, they are allowed to enter the city during peak traffic hours despite clear directions of the State High Court that bans entry of heavy vehicles of all kinds in the city during the day. "Most of their buses are close to two decades old, which pose serious threat to the children on board as any time such vehicles can develop snags that can prove fatal," said a concerned parent. "These vehicles were first hired on contract by the school administration from various bus unions, but later it became mandatory for them to acquire the Passeng...

The accident at DPS Jammu that left a 7th class student dead has raised many questions. The school administration says the girl slipped before hitting the parked bus as she came rushing after the school was over to board the bus. If this is true, why the elderly driver of the killer bus has been arrested? Where were the teachers at the time of the accident? A statement issued to the media by the principal says that the teachers were present at the site of the accident. However, the members of the DPS Jammu Parents Association have claimed that the teachers were called by the Principal to attend a meeting and were not present in the school ground near the buses. How does the school al...

2/9/2013 12:10:00 AM
Jammu: In the garb of addressing the grievances of the people, the National Conference Ministers in fact subject them (people) to inconvenience. The Ministers were directed by the Chief Minister to hold public meetings to gather feed back and to solve the problems of the people. However, the motorcade of the Ministers cause severe traffic jams on the Residency Road thus subjecting the commoner to huge inconvenience. Not only the general public, the tourists also find it difficult to park their vehicles in the area. Shockingly not a single Traffic Police officer is deputed in the area to do the needful. "It has also adversely affected the business in the area", shopkeepers said. The d...

Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 8: Farooq and Omar have differed on various issues in the past. The trend continues. Omar has ruled out any alliance with the NDA if it returns to power t Centre. This is in contravention to Dr Farooq's known stand who believes, no Government in Jammu Kashmir can survive without the support of the party in power at New Delhi. Farooq's apprehensions are not totally unfounded. In 1984 his Government was dismissed by former Governor, Jagmohan at the behest of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Farooq then was a new entrant into politics and had started flirtation with the opposition leaders across the country. Farooq's apprehensions made him to join the NDA in...
