Syed Junaid Hashmi Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 1: Not the political forces of Jammu and Kashmir but Union home ministry has shot down the much hyped proposal for setting up Transworld Muslim University in Budgam district of Kashmir region. Sources in the state government confirmed to Early Times that Union Home Ministry raised objections over setting up of these two universities citing credible reports of certain intelligence agencies with regard to Hawala funding of these universities. They asked Jammu and Kashmir government to ensure that the proposed universities do not come up without putting into place effective monitoring mechanism. Though the bill passed by the legislative assembly was referred to Joint Select Committee (JSC) when it was placed before the house of elders, it has been reliably learnt that “bill for setting up Transworld Muslim University is unlikely to be tabled again or brought back to the house for voting.” They stressed that Joint Select Committee had been asked to report back to House within two months but with Union Home Ministry raising red flag,...

Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 01: An employee of Gandhi Nagar branch of Kendriya Vidyalaya allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself to death at his residence at Sucheni in Vijaypur near here today. Quoting family members, police sources said Ravinder Singh, son of Pritam Singh of Sucheni, went to his room after dinner last night. However, when he did not get up till late this morning, someone from the family went to his room and found him hanging from the ceiling fan hook, the sources added. Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 01: A CID cop was killed and another wounded critically when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding bus at Nagrota near here today. Police sources said CID cop Avtar Singh of Purkhoo and his colleague Dilip Kumar were going on their motorcycle when a bus hit them at Nagrota, resulting in critical injuries to them.They were admitted by police to the GMC hospital where Avtar was pronounced brought dead by the doctors, while the condition of Dilip was stated to be critical.Though police had seized the bus, its driver was absconding.
