Geelani, Mirwaiz among panel of 10 to liaise with UJC, J&K Police | Srinagar conclave wants militants, Police on board in probe | | -----Maulana Shaukat assassination-------------------
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz
SRINAGAR, Apr 18: In a significant and unprecedented development, an assembly of almost all separatist political and religious organisations in Kashmir valley today resolved to carry out a “credible and transparent investigation” into the assassination of Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith (JAH) chief, Maulana Shaukat Ahmed Shah. According
to a unanimously made decision, a 10-member panel, that includes Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Syed Ali Shah Geelani, would conduct the investigation in coordination with United Jihad Council (UJC) in Pakistan and the state Police in Kashmir.
Sources present in the three-hour-long closed-door meeting at JAH’s Barbarshah headquarters revealed to Early Times that most of the speakers sounded to be in favour of striking a balance. They deliberated at length on the cleric’s killing in an IED blast here on April 8th and J&K Police’s claim of breakthrough, as announced by IGP
Kashmir on April 16th, and asserted that the Police investigation should neither be endorsed nor rejected at this stage....

Enveloped in this controversy, the legislators are all set to meet the national president Nitin Gadkari tomorrow to present their ‘version’ of the story. launch a mass agitation in case recent order on issuance of Dogra Certificate was not withdrawn by April 30th.In his key address at a seminar on “Dogra Certificate Ka Kya Jawaaz?” at his Hydeprora residence here, Geelani dismissed the state Revenue Ministry’s order dated March 25th as a “well-conceived plot to

MINCING NO WORDS
NEHA
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Apr 18: If some reports appearing in a section of the print media are to be believed, and there are no reasons to dismiss these reports as a figment of imagination, then it can be safely assumed that the Bar Association Jammu (BAJ), the premier organization of lawyers and advocates, is likely to take the plunge and take on those in Kashmir who have unleashed a no-holds-barred propaganda campaign against the government order that has entitled the Dogras of Jammu province to obtain Dogra certificates from the concerned revenue authorities. The BAJ has on umpteen occasions identified itself with the genuine Jammu cause.

| | Displaced people need dignified rehabilitation not restoration of sold assets | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 18: If the parliamentary standing committee on Home Affairs has suggested to the state Government to restore immovable property, that had been sold as part of the distress sale in the Kashmir valley during the last 20 years, to the displaced people it is not as practicable as one wishes it to be.
A mere recommendation by a parliamentary committee does not have any legal or constitutional binding on the state Government. The exercise on restoring to the displaced Hinds their immovable assets needs a legal and constitutional support. What is surprising is the way the state Government has not been able to protect the immovable assets that had been grabbed or enc...

| | After surviving 70 attacks Geelani vows to protect pundits | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 18: Syed Ali Geelani committed a tactical mistake yesterday. He promised total protection to the pundits on their return to the Valley. Geelani and other separatists have been accusing the former Governor, Jagmohan of engineering and facilitating the exodus. A question arises. If state again `plays foul', how can the elderly leader fulfil his promise?
Geelani's visit to the migrant pundit camp yesterday evoked widespread appreciation. But saner elements expressed surprise over the promise he made to them. "I guarantee your protection", he promised. Can he fulfil it?
People close to Geelani are also surprised. "All actors have to be taken into confidence...

JAMMU, Apr 18: RSS of which the BJP is its political organ has upped its ante, described the cross-voting by the 7 BJP MLAs as most "unfortunate" and demanded stringent action against them so that a moral effect is produced and no BJP legislator in the future betrays the people and the cause.
