Dental surgeon among 1,000 appointed fraudulently in Health Deptt
Anantnag leads but fake recruitment scam spread over 12 districts; Bribe money worth Rs 1.00 Lakh to 2.00 Lakh collected from each 'appointee'
7/11/2012 7:44:18 PM
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz srinagar, July 10: Over a dozen senior and middle-rung officers of Department of Health Services, including Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) and Block Medical Officers (BMOs), have fraudulently appointed nearly one thousand men and women in at least 12 districts of Jammu & Kashmir in the last four years against bribe money ranging between Rs 1.00 Lakh to Rs 2.00 Lakh from each beneficiary. Those appointed fraudulently include a lady dental surgeon and hundreds of women appointed or "regularized" on Class 3rd and Class 4th vacancies. Well-placed authoritative sources today revealed exclusively to Early Times that that it was, in fact, "wrong distribution" of the bribe money collected from the beneficiaries that led to exposure of the State's largest recruitment scandal, next only to the one previously exposed and hushed up in Local Bodies. Insiders, consequently, flashed substantive complaints to higher authorities. Still, the inquiries and their findings have been hushed up more than three times at District level as well as Directorate level after the potential suffe...

NC- Congress war of attrition is alliance's strategy for 2014 elections?
7/11/2012 7:42:07 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, July 10: Unless there is more to it than meets the eye, the NC-Congress war of attrition has reached a new pitch with the NC additional general secretary Mustafa Kamaal blaming the Congress for all the ills of the State and the NC. Kamaal has chosen some bitter words to describe the alliance between the NC and the Congress. "It is an unholy alliance of compulsion." This is how the senior NC leader and uncle of the State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has described the power allies of the NC. Kamaal has also said the Congress stabbed his late father and founder of the NC, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah at least four times politically. The counter tirade from the Congress...

PHE Minister's 'blow' on two engineers at lower level
Devolution of powers to Panchayats still an 'enigma'
7/11/2012 7:41:50 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, July 10: Notwithstanding the fact that the NC led coalition Government's slogan of empowering panchayats and devolution of powers to Panches and Sarpanches is still entangled in politics of coalition compulsions but it is taking a toll of officers and even lower level employees , thanks to 'dictatorial' attitude of Ministers who survive on 'appeasement' policy that too on basic issues of water and power for common people, no matter at the cost of terminating the staff of their concerned departments. The step taken by the PHE Minister Taj Mohi-u-din in placing two engineers of Public Health Engineering Department, Pattan under suspension for non implementation ...

Consumers in J&K worried over dismal performance of BSNL, shift to private agencies
7/11/2012 7:41:29 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, July 10: The dismal performance of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) in J&K has become cause of concern for consumers. The callousness of the Department has led problems of the consumers dependent on BSNL only. What is adding to the worries of consumers most that consumers dependent on private networking like Airtel, Aircel, Vodafone, Tata Photon etc. have no such problems which the consumers of BSNL face. In the same vicinity a BSNL mobile will not function due to network problem while there will be no problem to the mobile phone consumers having connections of private agencies. The poor networking in BSNL is not a problem in remote areas but in Jammu city as wel...

Congress weakening Indian position vis-a-vis Pakistan
Merchants Of Death -- II
7/11/2012 7:41:08 PM
Rustam Jammu, July 10: How do former diplomats, who have served in Pakistan for years as Indian High Commissioner, and former Army General view the New Delhi's policy towards Pakistan? They are critical of the Congress-led UPA Government. They openly say in television shows that those at the helm in the South Block do not have the required will to set Pakistan right. In fact, there is consensus among most of the sophisticated and objective strategic affairs and Defence experts that the present dispensation in New Delhi has only helped Islamabad at the cost of India. Former diplomat G Parthasarthy, who served as Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad for years and know many things about P...

Neha Jammu, July 10: Kashmiri activist-cum-columnist-cum what not, Dr Javid Iqbal, who is always conspicuous by his presence in break-India debates and seminars has defended the Adbee Markaz Kamraz (AMK)-sponsored two-day conference on Kashmiri language in Poonch. Let him do so and put forth arguments to make people believe that the intentions of the organizers were pious. But the politically awakened people who know something about the nature of Kashmiri leadership and their stand on India, democracy and secularism will find it extremely difficult to share the views of Iqbal. In an article contributed by Iqbal. He has said many things, not new, and, hence, deserve no recognition. However...

Is Jammu losing its Hindu majority trait?
World Population Day
7/11/2012 7:40:25 PM
Abodh Sharma Jammu, July 10: In the midst of Syeed Ali Shah Gilani's din over demographic change in the Valley in the garb of return of Kashmiri Pandits to their homes and hearths, the fact of the matter is that while Jammu district has undergone a sea change in its demographic character as a predominantly Hindu majority region in the last two decades. An analysis of the trends of the population growth of Muslim population in the country indicates that it would not be long before India becomes a Muslim majority State. In Jammu and Kashmir especially, the demographic character was changed after the ouster of the entire Hindu and majority of Sikh community from the Valley, leaving Valley ...

Gen Singh unlikely to oblige Omar by withdrawing troops
Singh & Singh
7/11/2012 7:40:04 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, July 10: When Gen Bikram Singh replaced Gen VK Singh as Army chief on June 1, 2010, there were reports in a section of print media, including India Today (May 14, 2012), that former might oblige elements in the Indian political establishment by endorsing the Pakistani suggestion seeking demilitarization of the strategic Siachen Glacier where the Indian Army is holding the Indian flag high since 1984. For example, the operative part of the cover story "Blood Politics On Siachen" read like this: "As his tenure inches an inglorious finale, Manmohan Singh is desperate for a peace trophy, even if it means a Siachen sellout. But he has to win his own Army first, headed ...

Abrogation of article 370: how serious is Advani?
7/11/2012 7:38:46 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, July 10: BJP leader LK Advani yesterday reiterated his party's stand for the scrapping of Article 370 to take forward the integration process of Kashmir with India. But the question is when BJP was in power at the Centre, why did it not take steps to abolish it? Like him, many other BJP stalwarts in New Delhi and in the State have been demanding the scrapping of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution which grants special status to J&K. The fact is that for BJP and some other political parties, the Article has become a feeding ground. They exploit the issue when they do not have any other issue. In its national election manifesto, BJP had stated that if it was vo...

Army gives enough sign against AFSPA revocation
7/11/2012 7:38:34 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, July 10: ET stands vindicated with the recent statement of Army that there will not put troops pull out from the valley clearly implying that it's in no mood to oblige State Government by giving its assent on even partial revocation of AFSPA. ET had first reported that Army has turned down the request of the Omar Abdullah for partial revocation of Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) from two districts of Jammu and Srinagar. The denial of the Army about troops pull out and adding that it wasn't even under consideration shows that Army doesn't want to give away the advantage it has achieved after years of relentless pressure on terrorists and also by giving sac...
