Agitation saves Valley around Rs 1.5 Cr daily
A silver lining!
9/17/2010 11:26:29 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 17: The strikes and curfew restrictions have marred this year's marriage season. Most of the marriages have been postponed making the prospective brides and grooms suffer the pangs of separation for one more year. However, as they say every cloud has a silver lining, the on-going agitation has saved Kashmir a hefty sum. With marriages have been deferred, the demand for mutton has fallen leaving the suppliers high and dry. However, some people have availed the opportunity by preponing the marriages to save all the money which otherwise would be spent on Wazwaan (traditional Kashmiri cuisine). The marriage season starts in Kashmir from September and lasts t...

Amitabh Mattoo's Pakistani bandwagon
DELHI MEET ON KASHMIR - II
9/17/2010 11:26:08 PM
ET REPORT JAMMU, Sept 17: However, what did not surprise anyone was what Mattoo wrote in the same paper the same day. He has been advocating pernicious and perverted and pro-militant and pro-Pakistan views since the last about 13 years. Not only this, he is known for shifting stances. When he started writing, he appeared to be a staunch votary of greater autonomy/pre-1953 politico-constitutional status or semi-independence. He wrote at least a dozen articles on the theme and these appeared in The Hindu, The Times of India and The Hindustan Times. Later on, he changed his stand and started toeing the Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's line for reasons not really difficult to fathom. In other words, he...

All-party parliamentary delegation must visit land of refugees, alienated Jammu
News ANALYSIS
9/17/2010 11:25:52 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 17: The September 15 New Delhi's all-party meet has decided to send an all-party parliamentary delegation to Kashmir for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation in Kashmir and interact with cross-sections of people to ascertain their views on what should be done to diffuse the potentially dangerous situation there. The delegation would visit Kashmir on September 20. The visit would be no more than a futile exercise because the Kashmiri leaders and members of the so-called Kashmiri civil society and media persons would want the delegation to accept certain demands no country would ever concede. They, who are over-fed, over-pampered and extraordinarily empo...

None but leaders in both National Conference (NC) and Congress camp are giving air to these wild speculations, quoting their close associates and ideologues in New Delhi. These leaders confirmed to early times that centre had offered Farooq Chief Minister's chair in the month of July but he had then refused citing personnel reasons. They added that Farooq had then consulted his colleagues ...
