Three days ahead of the festival of Eid, that marks the end of the holy month of Ramazan, at least four demonstrators got killed when a group of over 200 people attacked the cavalcade of senior Police officials at Palhalan. Informed sources in North Kashmir told Early Times that the newly appointed IGP of Kashmir, S M Sahai, and SSP Baramulla, Mansoor Untoo, were returning to Srinagar from Baramulla when a group of people shouted pro-Azadi and anti-India slogans and subjected their cavalcade to intense stone pelting. Why this dichotomy Mr Chief Minister?
AFSPA not applicable to state police force
9/7/2010 12:16:29 AM
Early Times Report jammu, Sept 6: The Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has got tough over Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). Only yesterday he suggested tangible measures for withdrawal of the ‘draconian legislation.’ Omar won many an admirer for his `bold' statement. The statement reflected his concern over for abuse of human rights at the hands of the Army and the Para-Military forces. But why is the Chief Minister, who also happens to be the Home Minister of the State silent over violations by the state police? By seeking repeal or amendment of the AFSPA, Omar Abdullah basically wants to bring erring soldiers of the Army and Para-military forces to justice. Section 6 of the Act m...

Makes uninvited presence in CM's function, lauds him-all to project demands
9/7/2010 12:15:29 AM
KUNAL SHRIVATSA EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Sept 6: The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) which always claims to champion the cause of Jammuites had to cut a sorry figure today when one of its MLAs not only attended a political function held by the ruling National Conference (NC) but also showered praises on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. What made the position embarrassing for the party was the fact that concerned MLA was not officially invited by the organizers of the function. The latter, however, managed to 'say & seek' something for his constituency from the cm freely, what he could not have otherwise, given the busy schedule of Omar. Since Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had to inaugurate 19....

"Irked" by Mangat's utterances, Omar says there will be no change of guard
9/7/2010 12:15:05 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT RAJOURI, Sept 6: In all "likelihood" irked by Mangat Ram's forceful utterances to have chief minister from Jammu on rotational basis, Omar Abdullah today sought to clear the air about the controversy when he said "there will be no change of guard in the coalition". A week, or so back, Mangat had told a gathering of party workers at Samba that it would be good for the Congress to have a chief minister from the party on rotational basis. Though no instant comment had come from Omar on this issue, today, he launched a veiled attack on his detractors, saying he would complete the full term as chief minister. "I will remain chief minister till 2014," he said repeatedly whi...

New Delhi is under tremendous pressure to resolve the so-called Kashmir issue in order to help restore peace in South Asia. The United States, which wants to quit the turbulent Afghanistan, wants New Delhi to create a situation on the Indian borders between Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan that enables Islamabad to send its Islamic warriors to its western border so that it could concentrate on Afghanistan and establish its control over that country. The United State wants a similar situation on the Line of Control between the Indian Jammu and Kashmir and the o...

9/7/2010 12:13:17 AM
