SRINAGAR, Jan 11: Chief Minister's snubbing of the District revenue authorities over their failure in acquiring land for the Central University campus at a high level review meeting last month has failed to break the jinx. Unfazed by the dressing down, the Revenue authorities are persisting with their controversial plans of taking over thousands of Kanals of the private agriculture land on exorbitant rates. Triple the area required for the campus is readily available from the government's own reserve but the land acquisition, according to residents and informed official sources, is underway with the intention of paying double---even triple---the market value to the owners and subsequently sharing the "profit" on 50:50 basis.
According to well placed authoritative sources, an area of 4,000 Kanal of land is required for raising of the campus of the Central University at Tulmullah, in Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's Assembly constituency of Ganderbal. Jammu, Jan 11: Jammu and Kashmir has decided to continue the selection process for medical graduate and post-graduate courses through its Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE), trashing the Medical Council of India (MCI) proposal to conduct the national eligibility-cum-entrance test (NEET).
The state's Minister for Medical Education R.S. Chib told some newsmen here Tuesday that a communication in this regard has already been sent to the union government.
The minister said it was not in the interest of the candidates of Jammu and Kashmir to do away with the BOPEE, which had been created through a legislation passed by the state legislature.

| | Shop gutted in fire at Gujjar Nagar | | | Jammu: A devastating fire this morning gutted an electrical goods shop at Gujjar Nagar here. The incident created panic in the densely populated locality which has a series of houses and shops in the close vicinity of the burnt shop.
Due to fire, 3-4 handy gas cylinders also exploded in the shop, police sources said.
Three fire tenders were immediately pressed into service and it took them around one hour to control the fire. The shop was completely gutted, but there was no injury or loss of life.

He was alleged to be sitting on the pillion seat of the motorcycle which was being driven by Giri. While Giri was killed in the alleged police encounter, Babloo had survived with bullet injuries.

According to the sources, most of the applications have been filed from Doda, Poonch and Rajouri districts of the Jammu region. Applications have also been received from some Valley districts as well.
