Hunt begins for SVC, IAS babus on job | | | Syed Junaid Hashmi
Jammu, Jan 12: Names of retired as well as serving IPS and IAS officers have begun making rounds in various corridors of civil secretariat and in the influential political circles for being appointed to the high profile State Vigilance Commission (SVC).
Though intense lobbying is nowhere physically evident but rumour mongers have begun circulating names of two senior IPS officers for the coveted post. These include present DGP Kuldeep Khoda (IPS) of 1974 batch and retired IPS officer Dr. Ashok Bhan of 1976 batch. These two officers are being discussed across all the circles as top contenders for the post of Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC).
Sources maintain that if the government goes by merit, one of the two is likely to be chosen to head so-called 'independent state information commission'. They added that both have ability to run the commission smoothly and make it a vibrant institution against corrupt officers and rampant corruption in the administrative system across the state. Of the two, Bhan has remained non-controversial throughout his career.

The party High Command has decided to get this exercise done by February in order to refurbish the image of the party and rejuvenate the demoralized cadres and supporters.

| | NC still trying to buy time for Cabinet reshuffle | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 12: Though much talked about Cabinet reshuffle may take place in last week of this month as the Congress which is the junior partner in coalition government is pressing for the same, the National Conference (NC) leadership including Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is not much interested in early reshuffle.
According to high placed sources the Congress at present is main loser as it has lost the Cabinet berth after the then R&B Minister GM Saroori a close confident of former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad was shown the door in impersonation case over one year back and since then the Ministry is looked by Chief Minister himself.
Moreover the strength of Congr...
| | Jammu not a doormat, it will decide its own fate | Kashmir Issue -- IV | | Neha
Jammu, Jan 12: Yes, it is true that the people of Jammu province suffered enormous socio-economic and political losses during all these 64 years of the state's accession to India. But it's also true that they sacrificed their legitimate interests and allowed New Delhi to do whatever it wanted to bring the Kashmiri leadership and its highly indoctrinated anti-India constituency to the national mainstream. They suffered losses cheerfully for a larger cause. It is hardly necessary to underline here the fact that all the sacrifices made by the people of Jammu province during all these years if accession have gone down the drain. The Kashmiri leadership continues to try its level best to u...
| | Kashmir -- a way forward | Kathwari Formula And Its Implications | | Rustam
Jammu, Jan 12: Even a cursory glance at the latest proposal of Farooq Kathwari, marked confidential and issued from New York, would suggest that it doesn't consider Jammu and Kashmir as part of India as well as part of Pakistan. He virtually considers it as an independent entity and, at the same time, stands for a solution that is basically based on former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf's four-point Kashmir solution, the People's Democratic Party's self-rule document and the National Conference's autonomy report. He doesn't say anything whether the central laws extended to the state should be or should not be withdrawn, but his self-governing formulation makes it abunda...
