1/22/2012 12:16:45 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 21: The government policy to give jobs to surrendered militants in police may entice some unemployed youth into joining militant ranks. Since getting a government job was very difficult nowadays, some unemployed youth could join militancy only to surrender later as this step of theirs would bring them a job in police, official sources said. DGP Kuldip Khuda, however, holds the view that the surrendered ultras were being given jobs to ensure that they did not rejoin militant ranks. But there are instances when some of them, who were engaged as SPOs, fled police stations along with arms and ammunition. 35 new battalions were being created with the assistance ...

1/21/2012 11:22:31 PM

The fast moving events during the last one week indicate a lowering of tensions between the government and the military establishment. The first sign of the rapproachment was witnessed when the Navy chief Admiral Muhammad Asif Sandila was decorated on Friday with Nishan-i-Imtiaz (military), one of the highest national honours, for his meritorious services. The citation of the award conferred by President Asif Ali Zardari at a ceremony in the Presidency reads: "Nishan-i-Imtiaz (M) was being conferred upon the naval ch...

Are the strings of ties under strain again between the allies ….the leaders of which would swear by the slogan of coalition dharma or is Congress getting disenchanted and disillusioned with NC which continues to be in the steering seat of power. If the statement of a senior Congress leader against NC and no less dignitary than the Patron of the party Dr Farooq Abdullah is weighed in political terms, it indicates so and perhaps more if one is able to decipher between the lines.
