SRINAGAR, Sept 30: Death of a prominent National Conference (NC) activist, who was known for collecting huge amounts of money from political aspirants and had free access to top corridors of power, allegedly in custody of Crime Branch (CB) of Jammu & Kashmir Police has stirred a hornets' nest in the summer capital today. Even as Government admitted that the NC activist had collected whopping sum of Rs 1.18 Cr from two other NC activists and a judicial inquiry was announced immediately, opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) demanded resignation of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Minister of State for Home, Nasir Aslam Wani, "to facilitate an expeditious and credible investigation".
Authoritative sources disclosed to Early Times that one Syed Mohammad Yousuf S/o Syed Ghulam Ahmad R/o Loktipora, Bijbehara, died in mysterious circumstances at SMHS in the wee hours today. Jammu, Sept 30: The Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today tendered an unconditional apology for disclosing the identity of the rape survivors in the Legislative assembly. "I in the capacity of the Home Minister tender an unconditional apology for the serious lapse", he said.
The government furnished a list of rape survivors in the assembly. Contrary to precedents, the names and addresses of the survivors were also disclosed. Jammu, Sept 30: Renowned lawyer Prashant Bhushan sought constitution of a Special Investigating team (SIT) in the Bhaderwah triple murder case today.
Arguing the case in a jam packed court room, Bhushan said High Court has the power to constitute a SIT in cases where it seems justice has not been done. "Or, the honourable court may entrust reinvestigation if the case to the CBI", he argued.
