10/20/2011 12:16:54 AM
Bharat Bhushan JAMMU, Oct 19: This is the sordid tale of a Rs 1,000 fake currency note that was today the topic of discussion in the dusty Nagbani village, about 1 km off the lower Akhnoor road, near here. Apart from generating discussion among a handful of men and a woman, the note was also the cause of heated exchanges between them. It all started Monday evening. A bearded man brought home at Nagbani two fake currency notes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 denomination. As per his claim, the notes were given to him by an unidentified vegetable dealer at Narwal vegetable market where he works. He discussed the matter with a fat man who works in a teastall at Nagbani. Mehbooba In Fight-To-Finish Mode - I
10/20/2011 12:16:31 AM
Rustam JAMMU, Oct 19: PDP president and Leader of Opposition in the Asembly Mehbooba Mufti is in a fight-to-finish Mode. Her immediate targets are the already beleaguered Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the NC whose popularity graph is falling with each passing day. She has unleashed a no-holds-barred campaign to expose the Chief Minister, his government and the NC's double-speak. Her one-point agenda is to lower the position of the Chief Minister and his father Farooq Abdullah in the eyes of the people of Kashmir, who are already, it appears, quite unhappy with the system of government handed down to them by Omar Abdullah and expand her party's support-base in Kashmir Valley and the Musl...

"There is a tragedy with Jammu and Kashmir that there is no accountability at political level in this state which leads to reversal of democratic processes and erosion of democratic institutions despite people of this state having reposed faith in the same time and again. Chief Minister Abdullah would have been in jail like former Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yeddyruppa if there would have been rule of law in Jammu and Kashmir", Mehbooba Mufti told a press conference here. Mehbooba Mufti also said in...

Would NC lick its autonomy wounds if Geelani is offered unconditional dialogue?
10/20/2011 12:14:07 AM
Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 19: With media reports suggesting that the centre is mulling the idea of inviting Kashmiri separatist leaders to an unconditional dialogue, another storm is brewing for the NC-Congress coalition government in the State. If the media reports turn out to be true, the credibility of the ruling NC would take a serious beating yet again. The NC's autonomy resolution was simply trashed by the centre even though the NC had the same passed by the State Legislature. Now there is talk of an offer of unconditional dialogue to the separatists. What legal right would a party hold to remain in power when its legally passed document was trashed and those challenging the ...

Anti-Congress Wave -- II
10/20/2011 12:13:36 AM
Neha JAMMU, Oct 19: The situation as it prevails today across the country clearly indicates that the national mood is against the Congress or that anti-Congress wave is sweeping across the country. The Congress is in a shambles in the major Indian states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Its position in Orissa, Uttranchal, Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Kerala, Chhattishgarh is highly precarious. In West Bengal, the Congress is at the mercy of Chief Minister Mamta Bannerjee, who cannot be depended upon considering her mercurial nature. She can leave her ally in lurch anytime. The North-East presents a mixed scenario with the Con...
