TOP STORY OF THE DAY
For the information of controversial interlocutor Padgaonkar
10/25/2010 11:21:16 PM
RUSTAM EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 25: Interlocutors on J&K Dileep Padgaonkar, Radhah Kumar and M M Ansari have not started on a promising note. Padgaonkar, in particular, has vitiated the whole atmosphere by making some highly controversial statements, including his dumb-founding statement that Islamabad is a party to the "Kashmir dispute" and that peace would return to Kashmir only after Islamabad is conciliated by addressing its concerns in the Indian J&K. It appears that these interlocutors are not fully aware of the complexities in J&K. Their conduct has indicated that they have walked into the separatists' trap and reached the conclusion that the people of Kashmir are angry because of their political and economic neglect. Hence, it would be only desirable to bring to his notice some hard facts and glaring disparities between Kashmir and Jammu to make him understand that it is Jammu, not Kashmir, which is genuinely feeling alienated both from Kashmiri leadership and powers-that-be in New Delhi. However, it is extremely doubtful if he and his colleagues would consider these...

10/25/2010 10:54:26 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 25: Nehru undertook the Kashmir journey three times before state's `accession' to India. The first visit in 1916 was insignificant. Second time he visited the Valley on Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah's invite in 1945. The third visit could not materialize initially because the Dogra monarch, Hari Singh did not allow him to enter the state. Nehru wanted to appear as a defense counsel for Sheikh Abdullah following his arrest after launching the Quit Kashmir Movement in 1946. However, he later visited Kashmir and published Sheikh Abdullah's statement which he gave in the court. This is what the people know. And what they do not know was unveiled by Dr Jagat Mohini du...
