Udaan fails to take off in JK
12/19/2013 11:00:42 PM
Akshay Azad JAMMU, Dec 19: The much hyped job employment policy Udaan has so far proved a flip flop for Jammu and Kashmir as after nearly two years of its launching, only 368 candidates have been offered the job in private sector. Sources informed Early Times that Udaan - a scheme piloted by the Home Ministry as part of the Centre's skill development initiative for Jammu and Kashmir- has been slow in delivering on the committed volumes. "The Udaan scheme was launched on March 26, 2012, to enhance skills and employability of 40,000 to 57,000 graduates, post-graduates and three years engineering diploma holders from state over a period of five years but after lapse of around two years, only 368 candidates have been offered job in private sector", sources informed. They further added the project was aimed at providing skills and enhance employability to 8000 youth from state every year, but contrary to claims only 547 have so far completed their training. "If such will be the pace of scheme after two years, then in the five years tenure, not more than 1,000 candidates of state wil...

Omar proposes, Centre disposes
12/19/2013 11:00:35 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 19: The day Chief Minister Omar Abdullah sought conversion of cross LoC trade into currency transaction, Government of India has made it clear that it cannot happen. "The line of control trade is confidence building measure implemented though Home Ministry. Eligible items produced on either side of the LoC are traded under this mechanism and zero duty between J&K and POK. LoC trade is not an India-Pakistan trade," said the Union MoS Commerce and Industry in Parliament on Dec 18. The statement makes it clear that cross LoC trade can't be made an international trade and as such it can't be traded in currency. CM was probably aware of it but he did what he has...

Cong all out to negate Modi's impact on OBCs of J&K
Kuldeep Verma's meeting with Rahul Gandhi
12/19/2013 10:59:23 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 19: Even as Congress leaders are publicly trying to undermine impact of Modi's "Lalkaar Rally" at Jammu, internally they are worried over impact of BJP Prime Ministerial candidate's speech on Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and other weaker section of the state. Modi's while addressing Lalkaar Rally on December 1 had refreshed wounds of OBCs who are the worst victims of Article 370 because they have been denied reservation rights all due to this Article. Modi in his address had raked up this issue only to strike emotional chord with weaker sections especially OBCs. As Modi himself belongs to OBCs his appeal has great impact on OBCs of Jammu and Kashmir which in...

Congress treading a dangerous path
Ignoring Nehru, Shastri, Gandhi
12/19/2013 10:59:00 PM
Neha JAMMU, Dec 19: The Sonia Congress and her men and women have disowned Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri and Indira Gandhi for all practical purposes and adopted a policy that is calculated to help the communalists in Kashmir to separate Jammu and Kashmir from India and establish there an Islamabad-type Government to decimate and persecute the non-Muslim minorities. How else should one interpret the stand the Congress leaders, including Ghulam Nabi Azad, Harish Rawat, Manish Tiwari, Digvijay Singh, Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Sanjay Jha, Abdul Gani Vakil, to mention only a few, have been taking on the BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's suggestion that time has come to hold a ...

Not contesting election from Ganderbal would mean conceding defeat
Shaky National Conference
12/19/2013 10:58:49 PM
Rustam JAMMU, Dec 19: Is National Conference (NC) working president and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah not so sure of his victory in the prestigious Ganderbal Assembly constituency in Kashmir considered to be a pocket borough of the Abdullah family? Is he in search of a safer constituency in the Valley to ensure his victory in the 2014 Assembly elections? These are the two straight questions which political observers put today. In fact, it was the talk of the town today with many political pundits saying that Omar Abdullah is "afraid" of facing the people of the constituency he has been representing since 2009. It was none other than Mustafa Kamaal, Omar Abdullah's uncle, who provided an opp...

12/19/2013 11:00:24 PM
Mustansir SRINAGAR, Dec 19: In blatant violation of the prescribed norms and regulations, the vandalization of picturesque Sonamarg continues under the nose of the state Government rather in connivance with the political bigwigs of ruling National Conference. After Gulmarg and Pahalgam, it is Sonamarg which is the victim of unplanned and illegal constructions that are telling upon the health of this resort once called "golden meadow". The area is no more a meadow of gold. Zones which were declared 'green' under the Sonamarg Master Plan have been brazenly defiled by the unholy triangle of politicians, bureaucrats and businesses. Pertinently after Gulmarg and Pahalgam, Sonamarg is the mo...
