| CRPF’s CCTV, BSNL’s towers tracked BSF cavalcade | | Zahid Farooq was gunned down by cop in presence of his Commandant on Boulevard | | | AHMED ALI FAYYAZ
SRINAGAR, Feb 10: It was probably for the first time in 20-year-long armed insurgency in Jammu & Kashmir that armed forces bucked under Chief Minister’s pressure, exerted through the proper channel of the Union Home Minister, and lost no time in suspending and handing over to Jammu & Kashmir Police an official who was found guilty of gunning down a teenager in broad daylight. Notwithstanding varying statements of senior BSF officials, it has been established with the use of technology that the erring Constable had opened fire on 16-year-old Zahid Farooq in the afternoon of February 5th in Nishat area in presence of the Commanding Officer of BSF 68 Bn, R K Virdhi.

| | | | Fire in CM's BP car's engine | | Police contradict official version | | | EarlY Times Report
Jammu , Feb 10
Even as those close to Omar Abdullah persisted that the chief minister had a providential escape Tuesday night after the engine of his brand-new bullet-proof (BP) car caught fire "mysteriously" on the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway, police "denied" the incident. Neither Kathua police nor Samba police confirmed the incident. "Honestly, we do not have any knowledge of such an incident," police officers in the twin border districts of Kathua and
Samba said.
Even the police control rooms (PCRs) in the two districts did not have any such report.
This has aroused a controversy with police disagreeing with what the government machinery claims. Offici...

| | | | People hope for settlement of water dispute | | | |
Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 10:-It is neither euphoria nor excitement in the Kashmir valley over Delhi's announcement on reopening of the channels of dialogue with Islamabad. Instead it is hope among people that the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir may register a marked improvement once the two sides resume the dialogue.
An interview with a cross section of people in the valley indicated that majority of people were hopeful that while Islamabad will take steps to check infiltration of militants,Delhi may direct the security forces, operating in Jammu and Kashmir,to desist from dealing firmly with the civilians during operations against the militants. Many among the masses believ...
| | | | Mufti seeking to achieve the unachievable! | | | |
RUSTAM
JAMMU, Feb 10: PDP patron and former J&K Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is seeking to achieve the unachievable. He not only welcomes the controversial decision of New Delhi to resume dialogue process with Pakistan and expresses the view that this process must go on even if Pakistan continues to repeat the 26/11-like Mumbai terrorist attacks, but also asserts that the resolution of Kashmir problem is possible as the “problem is not that complex or difficult” to surmount. If one reads what Mufti says between the line, one can say without any hesitation that he is pleading the Pakistani cause and asking New Delhi to accord credibility to the Kashmiri Muslim identity politics...

| | | | Beyond ‘shameless’ Graffiti: Education Dept forgets ethics | | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 10: Once again, trying to shoo away its primary responsibility of fastening educational ethics on the grass root levels, the Education Department has tried for an easy escapism by glorifying the superfluous.
The banner heads and bigger media displays of Education system of the state very well auguring with the satisfaction of requirements of the state of art education here have a very unfortunate and miserable history in the rural interiors.
Many of government run schools there do not even produce a single student having ever qualified for a merit to deserve as having been passed with basic minimum requirement of the marks. Ironically, the State Education...
| | | | Police Khatam Shareef for peace goes in vain | | | |
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 10: Never had such esteemed guests arrived in the Police Control Room. Every body was on his toes. The room meant for the guests was properly cleaned. Perfumed smoke emanating from the incense sticks and the spray of rose water at regular intervals had a soothing effect on the guests and the hosts as well. It was an ideal environment for a prayer meeting meant for peace and tranquility in the conflict ridden state. But the feast went in vain. The assembly did not yield the desired results. Much to the discomfort of the embarrassed police officials, the Control Room fiasco evoked humorous reaction outside.
On January 30, a grand feast was hosted in the...
